There's a right-winger who posted that Soros was quoted in a 1987 "60 Minutes" interview declaring that his goal was the destruction of the United States of America." Well, I did a quick Google search and didn't find this alleged interview -- but I did find this Charlie Rose interview with him from 1995. Just for shits & giggles, I clicked on the Conservapedia page devoted to slandering Soros, and what do you know? Not even a hint of that alleged quote about destroying the USA -- from a website where you'd expect to see such 'information' presented.
My 'take' on the demonization of George Soros is that the alt-right media -- beginning with Glenn Beck -- was willing to tell the most outrageous lies about the big-money donors to Left-wing politics, essentially projecting what they knew to be true of all the evil Right-wing big-money donors (the Koch Brothers, etc.) and hoping the gullible fools who were watching Fox News would absorb all that bullshit into their worldviews.
Maybe if Soros had been willing to take Fox to court for defamation -- the way Dominion Voting Systems did -- we could have been spared 20+ years of Fox News disinformation and divisiveness. How sweet it would have been for Rupert Murdock to have his ass taken to the cleaners -- for Fox News to be driven to bankruptcy back when they were on their anti-Clinton binge.
