Nikon Z8 vs D850: It's FINALLY time for MIRRORLESS!

I've used KEH before and like them. But the negative of KEH is that they do not give you shutter counts on their cameras. For that reason alone, I often choose to purchase off of Fred Miranda.

I miss the golden ring on the new Z lenses. Canon has preserved their red ring, why Nikon ditched that nice touch?

I would have a d850 or d500 with 200-500 , for sports and bird/animal photography . the pictures which comes out of it is so good .. as Nikon where late to launch it’s mirrorless I moved out to sony for video purposes and now thinking of moving to Fuji,, but will always hold on to one of d500 or d850 just for birding .

Battery life. I bought a D850 new. I've got top shelf F series glass. And I prefer the optical viewfinder . D850, D810, D3X for portraits. I'm waiting for a mirrorless replacement for the D500, only then will I go mirrorless. Thanks for the review, well done.

This video is very misleading. Most people are not going to be able to afford the Z8 and not to mention the extremely high prices for mirrorless lenses. so to say that it is time for mirrorless is kind of ridiculous. Besides, if you want to make money taking pictures, it's not really about the gear but about how you Market yourself as a photographer.

I am not really interested in interchangeable-lens cameras anymore, I just want a really high quality super zoom camera.

Just got Z8 and was excited beyond belief. Set menus and went for a test run. It overheated at ONLY 79 STILL frames (I kid you not!). Was using the Sony Tough CFexpress Type B card. Hot card warning and lower-left quadrant almost too hot to touch. At a loss. I'm hanging on to my D850 for sure.

Tony I disagree with you I have never had any problem with my landscape photo on my z camera I actually think my z6 is a way better landscape camera then my d810

Is Nikon Z8 an update of Nikon D850? These two ; They are two different worlds and have no connection with each other; one mirrorless and the other dslr; Two different worlds with different lenses; D850 update should be Nikon D880 or D900; Then you can make a proper comparison; Nikon mirrors, apart from the evf discussion, which I am not interested in at all; weak battery and limited lenses; If the Nikon dslr has an excellent battery ovf and a world of excellent glass lenses; At a better price with the same output. Nikon produced its best cameras between 2008 and 2017. From now on, the bar is empty.

Tony you’re insane if you think ovf is better than a top quality evf. While looking through the evf, you get an actual representation of what it looks like based on the settings. Ovf, not so much it can look good to the eye, but if your settings are off just a little, you get a completely different shot, which makes everything take longer in post.

If the camera and lens combination is large and heavy it has to have an optical viewfinder.
What can fit in a side pocket doesn't have to have an optical viewfinder.

The best lens I have for going to the zoo is the 80-400mm f4.5-5.6 D, yes “D”, so it doesn’t autofocus with my Z9, I took my older D850 and it rocked. The D850, doesn’t have some of the new stuff, but it still creates exceptional images. Do I like my Z9, hell yes, but my lens inventory is low compared to my f-mount lenses. I will be keeping my F-mount lenses and cameras for many more years to come.

I recently read some reviews on the Nikon Z8 where the reviewers stated that while the Z8's front panel is made of Carbon Fibre, the Z8's rear panel is made from a plastic, I am so extremely disappointed by this revelation. Apparently at Nikon HQ the idea was to design and build the Z8 so as to lure fans of the D850 into buying the new Z8, well considering that the D850 body is entirely made of Magnesium-Alloy, why would D850 users buy a plastic Z8?; the management at Nikon HQ made a ATROCIOUS decision to make the Z8 out of moulded plastic; it would have been infinitely better and wiser to cut back on features instead of compromising the Z8's build quality, yet the staff at Nikon HQ are presumably made up of university graduates. Considering the above points I have absolutely no desire to buy the Z8; in fact I would rather use a Nikon FM2n.

This video felt like watching this channel in 2014/2015 when I fell in love with it. Something just feels right about you guys praising Nikon, shooting Ospreys and talking about new cameras you're excited for! We need photo critiques back!

Love KEH for lenses. Refuse to use them for bodies as they refuse to disclose shutter count. All their competitors do

You can buy a D850 and 28mm 1.4E for half the price of the Z8 body, and produce better images than anything the Z8 produces.

Love the video, but for us with full frame cameras and the collection of lenses that work with it, the expense is a LOT more than swapping out a $2K camera for a $4k Z#. The Z looks awesome, but I am not sure I am ready to take 20-30 cents on the dollar for every lens and camera that I currently have. When the gap in performance is wider, I will consider it. But for now it isn't wide enough to take that loss. Love the mirrorless systems though. Also, I just checked that source to sell and was offered about $850 for a few pieces of gear that cost me over $5k. If I were being paid for my shots, I would probably consider making the leap though, but as a hobbyist, I am just not there yet..

Love the Z8 what i can see, but for the most people they don't have that kind of money..ca 4000 euro's!. So i must stick to my D500 until the prices are dropping. But as u say mirrorless is the future, what is the most likely Z series i shoud buy when i come from a D500?

I switched to a Canon R5 two years ago but I still prefer the Nikon ergonomics. If the Z8 had been available, I would have stuck with Nikon.

If you don’t care about video I’d say the D850 is 100% the better deal.
