real shame that this movie shelled out on such a good cast, then honestly kind of shot itself in the foot with the Tom Cruise casting, He's not terrible but he's comfortably the worst performance in the film, completely out of type for him, he's an action lead, and at BEST an everyman, but complex character actor? he's never had close to the chops for that.

Historians suggest that this scene never actually took place. The events around this time are largely speculation but makes for good drama.

Historically inaccurate german uniform colours. field gray is actually gray GREEN. there should be a green cast to all the german uniforms, not gray. that includes the SS too. I cant believe that these so called movie experts didn't catch that.

They had like half the cast of Pirates of the Caribbean in this movie.

Tom Wilkinson (General Fromm) - such a great supporting actor contribution to every film he’s done (Michael Clayton, The Patriot and many others).

The general was giving them the honor and mercy of a military death by firing squad. He knew the SS would have tortured them and hung them instead of death by firing squad. It was a small mercy but the only one he could afford to give them.

Many of the actors speak fluent German actually.

Also why did the officer, whos order was to take them alive (directly from Hitler), give in so easily? he (the officer) who did an about face upon hearing a few words (from hitler) over the phone, didnt really put up a fight.

Seeing Kenneth Branagh playing the role of General Henning von Tresckow in this film and playing Reinhard Heydrich in Conspiracy shows what a great actor he is.

These men will forever be remembered for their actions. However lets not forget they were mostly monarchists, not like they were trying to establish a republic fyi.

After the Bendlerblock executions, Fromm went to Joseph Goebbels to claim credit for suppressing the coup, to which Goebbels only said, "You have been in a damn hurry to get your witnesses below ground." On the morning of 22 July 1944, Fromm and other members of the conspiracy were arrested. Since the court failed to prove a direct association with the 20 July plotters, he was instead charged and convicted for cowardice before the enemy. However, because he had executed the conspirators within reach, he was spared torture and execution by hanging with a thin rope, and sentenced to a military execution.

On 12 March 1945, Fromm was executed at the Brandenburg-Görden Prison by firing squad as part of the post-conspiracy purge. His last words before the firing squad were reported to be "I die, because it was ordered. I had always wanted only the best for Germany."

I like tom Cruise and it's a decent movie but I hate that they sanctify these men. They were imperialist monarchists who wanted to keep the conquests and was afraid hitler would loose it all.

General Fromm's expression was really impressive, he knows that the German Reich is at the brink of destruction and an allied/soviet held Germany would see leadership and command eliminated.

Fromm does all this to try and cover up his involvement only to get arrested two days later and then executed in March of '45

Not a fan of Tom Cruise BUT I believe he did an outstanding job in this picture.
