Really appreciate the hard work you're putting into bringing these quality and to-the-point videos. They're are all interesting, relevant and keeps one hooked. Topics no one else seem to be addressing. Thanks a ton John!

I wonder how DaVinci will perform in laptop with Linux, let's say something like Gigabyte Aero (15) oled XC.
Also it's interesting to see any differences between native Davinci System like CentOS and non native like Ubuntu. I'm a bit worrying about the future of Davincin on Linux since CentOS will end in 2024 ;c

Lot of Good Info here, Thanks! Can you offer any suggestions for a Graphics Processor to Add to my AMD 5700G system ($550 Range). I am doing mostly Video Processing (now using Kdenlive but Looking at Davinci). I am running multiple Linux Distros (Linux-Mint / Ubuntu/ Manjaro & Windows 10) on my Desktops. My plans are to upgrade my AMD System (3rd or 4th Quarter this year) to their new Zen5 Architecture so I would migrate the GPU to that new system. I have several other Zen4 Desktops with AMD APUs or very low end Graphics Cards.

Were you running Resolve Studio or free version? Is it true that the GPU is used much more in Studio? I'm confused about that.
Also, I'm seriously considering to abandon Windows and switch to some version of Linux. I saw in some forum that h.264 was not supported on Resolve free. Is that true.
I watched your Install Resolve on Ubuntu Linux video. I've used Unix and am not afraid of using command line but I don't want to spend all my time sorting out technical issues instead of editing. (I'm a retired engineer but now I want to use the computer instead of fixing it.:) What's your advice?

Woah, that's so cool, I was worried resolve would slow down after I switch to linux! :D
Are you planning to retest it with version 17? :)

I’d love to move to Linux but for Resolve, you can’t export in prores (without the advanced panel dongle) and even if you do export in dnxhd/dnxhr, how do you even play the exported file to check it’s fine?

was it davinco resolve studio or the free version? I run the free version on ubuntu too and have the (I think usual) problem with codecs. I guess the raw performance of the pro version and the free version should be the same.

It does start but it för not play any video :( I have NVIDIA cards but I did same test on another PC with Arch base Garuda linux and AMD video cards. Same problem. Blackmagic wrote that the free version does not support H.264 Codec.. How sid ypu mansge to run it? Any ideas would be appriciate a lot. (Iam Linux newbie...)

Probably has to do with the filesystem itself, and allocation of blocks as the video renders.

Do you find that it’s a hassle having to update on Ubuntu since Resolve is meant to be run on CentOS? I wish they would just make a Flatpak or AppImage version of it.

I mean if you really compare them, I tried installing Linux on my laptop (dual booting) and it gets about 280% better FPS in the same games than windows does. (Same settings too)

I have been using Resolve on Ubuntu 20.04 for a year now and it never disappointed me, only thing that annoys me is the lack of h.264 support in the free version for linux

Does h.264 and mp4 formats work on the free version? Is there a way to get them working?

You should have mentioned "The lower, the better" in the graph.
