It does make me think... If I use it on the timeline instead of color, I can then pipe it into fusion as its own input node... That way I can use the depth map for the big areas and do more manual roto for the problem areas. I think it could save a lot of time overall as I only have to roto the bits it has problems with.

Wouldn’t the person mask work better?

You will need to try this again when "selecting an object" feature is released in a future beta, since it isn't available in the 1st beta.

thanks Kerry, knowing this facility is a resource, better fixing focus point with the right aperture in order to get the best depth of field with the camera, will probably provide anexciting option

A really good proof of Concept Kerry,
Thank You.
What may be useful is, and your thoughts will be useful,
is adding Mist or Fog between the Foreground Object and Background

Outstanding video. Am still new to Davinci. How then do you rotoscope in Davinci and get the best results? Do you have a video on the same?

one of my friends tried this, and got a functional virtual production set in his garden without using green screen using the ipad lidar scanner to track shot, replace the background with a 3d environment from unreal engine and just used the depth map to roto his subject. very cool tool

Excenlent, the only problem is that you need the studio version to get rid of the watermark. With the studio version you can use magic masks which would do the same thing. I've just realized you did this video before magic masks were implemented.

Nah it proved no concept. The resulting footage was totally unusable (though entertaining), and there was hardly any way to make it usable. There are situations when depth map would do excellent job, but absolutely not here. Yes it is a new instrument, yes it works - sometimes, somewhere - but it is by far not as universal as the hype goes.
