hmn this time ill actually early addopt. i loathe the m§+ x86 combo, linux + RiscV shall be the future !
ОтветитьDoes it still run RISC OS Unix?
ОтветитьHey I don't know if anyone else pointed this out or if it works with the RISC-V architecture but there is box 86 which does only 32 bit applications and I got it to run steam on my raspberry pi (as an experiment) so that may work for this idk though
ОтветитьI just checked, Steam on Linux IS 64Bit though there are a ton of 32Bit compatibility libraries and THOSE do not run. This breaks dependencies but NOT the runtime itself. If you force to ignore dependencies Steam itself runs pretty well on an amd64-Steam.
I know what I am talking about. I tried installing Steam on a 32Bit-ony Linux system and there is absolutely NO chance because all the core libraries are 64Bit only.
Just to clarify, today there are barely no RISC or CISC architectures around except in the smallest SOCs. Today systems use MICROCODE, which means the commands are not "in hardware" but "interpreted" and executed in a Microcode-Language which has nothing to do with with native code and usually is VLIW which is closer to RISC but still quite different.
ОтветитьRISCs sadly have one big issue that I am surprised you have not touched on: cache. That might be one cause for the performance we saw (although it definitely will not be the only one).
Programs are only performant if the necessary data is in cache, rather than in memory. AMD understood this and cranked the cache to 11 with the X3D line of processors and RISCV might need to crank it to 20 just to be on par because RISC architectures need more instructions for the same results which all need cache space.
Thats called spf not fps buddy
(Seconds per frame)
All it takes is 1000+ companies to recompile their software.
ОтветитьARM is so scuffed you can't even do division without an approximation cope
ОтветитьMicrosoft has already written ACPI tables for Risc-V, sounds like Microsoft wants to integrate Risc-V support into Windows.
ОтветитьReal conservatives need open source to dodge government surveillance. Marco Rubio is a joke.
ОтветитьDidn't understand anything being said, but i appreciate that ltt is trying to make higher quality and informative content.
ОтветитьI really want to do as little as possible to support the Chinese government. Those who are anti-capitalism and pro-socialism shouldn't want to support the Chinese government either, since they're a long way from being socialists and are tyrano-capitalists. (Is there a better word for this already? Basically, there is competition, but the government decides who gets to compete, and keeps everyone else out.)
ОтветитьOh boy, in tech politics should be limited. Like banning others from using your products? 5 year old behavior
ОтветитьXonotic on this thing working doesn't really qualifies it as a gaming computer.
I mean i can play Xonotic smoothly on my 2006 Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard
what you save on processor instructions, you have to add in programs...
Ответитьit's simple, it's the apple approach... more performance at the cost of limited options...
ОтветитьWell, at least you correctly said that x86 is robust. We really need a competitor to Intel and AMD that is CISC-based. Issuing fewer instructions to the CPU is the undeniably better path forward for computing, we just need a complete refresh of CISC design to account for the advancements in SIMD technology. The processor can optimize your code as it's running far better than the compiler can and CISC is in a far better position to affect that, and historically this has been very much borne out. As far as running things on a RISC-V chip, if we're talking about open source then it's a simple matter of recompiling. No Linux system should have a problem with running on such a system as long as they've ironed out the bugs in the compiler.
ОтветитьAlright Valve. The rest is up to you.
ОтветитьActually you can use Box86 to emulate i686-targeted program.
ОтветитьRX 580 is still stronk; not so sure about drivers for this platform though lol.
ОтветитьA free computer?!
ОтветитьWtf 1k for adjustable desk? 🤦♂️ Bruh.. i build mine 500 + 150 ikea top and it looks wayyy better 🤦♂️
ОтветитьTill now I didn't have seen nothing from Sifive, I saw only cheap announcement of the announcements.
Ответитьwhy was this episode filmed like a TechQuickie that wasn’t so quick? The colored and animated backgrounds just ain’t my thing.
ОтветитьIntel? BattleMage????!!!!!!!!!!!! HUUUAAAWWWEEEEIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII ! HealthSync / HealthyMe! :)
ОтветитьBut im trying to learn!!!
ОтветитьI have absolutely no idea what any of this means. 😅
ОтветитьVery cool
Ответитьyou are absolutely right that not cooperating with China on OPEN SOURCE devices hurts us.
ОтветитьSo cool :D I am trying to get into the assembly language and start porting stuff for fun. all to learn and hopefully together with my ARM skills, be a valuable programmer. But more importantly, I hope for European made RiscV cpu's that can compete with asian made, heck, maybe even american.
ОтветитьFun fact, This CPU is also used (and probably originally intended to be used) in a XMR cryptocurrency miner. That coin can only be mined efficiently by CPU.
Ответить@LinusTechTips ARM currently stands for Advanced RISC Machines. it used to stand for Acorn Research Machines
ОтветитьI believe nasa also plans on using risc-v for their future mission hardware.
ОтветитьI still love you Linus. I know you have been getting a bunch of hate, but I am still a big fan.
ОтветитьI REALLY like the cut away to green screen Linus for descriptive stuff. It makes details a lot more clear without the clutter of a scene. I feel like it should definitely be used more often.
ОтветитьNothing against the risk-v technology or anything, but seeing 128 gigs of ram attached to this computer just makes my face go 😐
ОтветитьIf you don't like toenails, you probably shouldn't look at your feet.
ОтветитьGreat indeed is the sublimity of the Creative, to which all beings owe their beginning and which permeates all heaven.
ОтветитьQuality means doing it right when no one is looking.
ОтветитьI'd always thought lightning was something only I could see.
ОтветитьDouglas figured the best way to succeed was to do the opposite of what he'd been doing all his life.
ОтветитьHmm seems interesting, although honestly anything with this kind of ground level the Chinese can go ahead and try their hand at replicating western tech bit I'll be effed if I let a CCP controlled developer the controls to my hardware
ОтветитьI always wanted to be somebody, but I should have been more specific.
