LIFE-CHANGING PRO TIPS FOR TRETINOIN/RETIN-A USERS!

So happy reddit lead me to this video- it was very informative, but I do have two questions (hopefully someone can answer!!). 1- the facial mapping is very interesting and makes sense. However, the places I break out are on my nose (sides and top) and my chin- mostly near my mouth. It sounds like the tret will still get in those areas, but that does make me nervous to not apply there. 2- I started tret in June and sloooowly worked my way up to daily at .25 strength and my skin was doing great- no irritation. But, I've noticed through the winter my skin has been more flaky and I feel I can't tolerate it daily now. Is it okay to change how often you're using tret, seasonally? It's a little disheartening to work your way up to using it daily, only to reduce usage. As a 42 year old still fighting acne, but also wanting to address aging, I feel like I really want this to work for me!

Yep. Been using RetinA for about 10 years. The beginning was rough. My tip is to put lip balm on your lips before putting it on at night. Petroleum around eyes while you learn to use it and AVOID THE NECK. I use 0.1% now and accidentally brought it down my neck a few weeks ago. I learned my lesson by two days later. Yikes. I was able to use glycolic acid and BHA with it eventually but it took a couple years. Love the results and will never stop

Tretinoin was shown to stimulate some hair regrowth in approximately 58% of the subjects studied. One female subject with pronounced alopecia for more than 20 years had regrowth of hair using only tretinoin for a period of 18 months.

I am on 0.05 tretinoin now and I had minor irritation and now I have none! I can put it all over my face and I put a small amount on my neck bc I did get some bad irritation there.

I apply it everywhere except eyelids without any problem. I don't have wrinkles on my cheeks so what's the point, I actually need it on my nasolabials and smoker's wrinkles the most

Seriously, this kind of behavior is practically puritanical. I think it has a lot of history. My urge to scrub and purge and try HARD for instant perfection is not healthy!

I am confused about the hair thinning. There is evidence that tretinoin actually increases hair growth in women with alopecia and it’s also prescribed to men to help with beard growth. I have been using Tret for a year now and I am so pleased with my skin at this point, but I have to gently dermaplane my cheeks at least once a month because I get extra fuzzy now. However my eyebrows are thin, but they have always been plus I’m nearing 40 so I just don’t know what or who to trust.

How can I use Tretinoin while getting laser hair removal on my jawline/upperlip every 4 weeks?

Almost everything in this video is wrong. This woman has no qualifications to give educated advice about skin care other than she buys stuff.

I literally do everything you said not to do except for applying to wet skin, lol. I’m 50 and have battled acne and extremely oily skin my whole life, I apply all over my face even my eyes and down my neck onto my chest. My pores are smaller, less oiliness, my melasma is lightening, and my under eye is less crepey. I do use the .1% every other night, and follow up the next day/night with Ponds cream s, many would say that’s the wrong moisturizer to use but for me it has really helped with dryness and itchiness compared to cerave and other brands.
In the end it all depends on your skin. My dermatologist prescribed it exactly for my melasma on my neck and chest and I’m going to start using hydroquinone with it too. 😊

Thank you for this video. You talked about eyebrow thinning, I too experienced eyebrow thinning. I never associated the thinning with Tretinoin. I also had sever irritation around the eye and nose, which lasted several months, it did eventually receed but it was pretty bad. Also, the purge for me lasted almost 4 months. I almost quit, but kept going. I have now been using this for 8 months and seeing smoother, more glowing skin. I did have to change up on all my facial washes and moisturizers to Clinique. Their products became my saving grace to get me through the purge which included dry, flaky, red irritated skin, which was so bad it actually bled slightly on my cheeks.

Is 0.05 considered a low strength?

I used a 1% retinol on my chest due to chest acne. But it got worse (i know about purging) but it was so Different from just an acne breakout. It didnt get any better. I thiugjt i damaged my skin barrier so i stopped but there were every were si timy little itchy bumps on my whole chest. I think its a fungal acne i Developed due to it was too harsh for my chest and possibly damaged my skin barrier. Could it be???

So i also now understand why ive got two irritsted patches on each dmside of my mouth .thang god thats all i got only been on tret 3 weeks but did work up from retinol to retinol first .great sdvice thankyou so much

I did the Dermatica test and they say they have a formula ready but they don’t tell you what’s in it. So how do you even know if they’re giving you Retin-A?

You have to sign up to a subscription. I have a lot of individual Ordinary products so they would go to waste? As you get one formula? They say don’t mix Retin-A with other things so I’m not sure when I’ll get the vitamins and peptides

I apply under eyes above eyes neck and chest and have not purged. .05 for 2 months and now up to .1 with no peeling purging or any other concerns. I have normal skin, slightly oily after the entire day. I have applied over moisturizer, on top and on wet skin (I heard it may work better over damp skin. ). I was very concerned I might have irritation when I was first starting, but all good so far! See what works for you and don't be scared

Apparently I have been doing it all wrong , with the exception of applying on dry skin days apart.
My derm Dr. wrote out for 0.1 % for me as a first timer. Then script read use once a day. Following his instructions I woke up one morning 4 days in with what seemed like a case of chapped lips on steroids😳.
It felt like I rubbed a scotch bonnet 🌶️ over my lips. They were fire engine red and cracked for days!
I'm happy I viewed this vid and will start from scratch by first asking for lower strength . Then follow all your advice here. Tks for all your wisdom for those if us like myself that are clueless first timers👍

So any halo here appreciated. I am 59 with Rosacea/ redness/ broken cheek capillaries. I am going for my first ever facial in 2 days for a BBL treatment and also have the agency tretin compounded skincare in transit to me. Would you postpone BBL the bbl if skincare is gonna work or spend that $$ on at home red light therapy? Or all 3?

Best moisturizer to apply after tret is La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double repair Face Moisturizer. If I was going to do the sandwich method I would start with Cerave PM night lotion, then tret, then Double Repair.

I’m excited about some studies showing tretinoin might help rosacea. I’m using .05 tret and so far it is not aggravating my rosacea.

Can u apply tretinoin to the neck, chest and back of the palm?

There is a lot of evidence of Tretinoin stimulating hair growth. People actually apply it to their hairline due to this reason. So i'm not sure why you would suggest it causes thinning?

I’m a long time tret user and it was a tough little journey for me in the beginning because my skin is very reactive. It took me around 6 months of trial and error until I found what worked for me. I wish I had something like this to guide me then, it would’ve made a world of a difference. My partner wanted to start tret so I sat him down and showed him this video and at the end he just said “I’m ready” and walked off to the bathroom 😂

Im an RN/esthetician. I worked in a clinic that sold Obagi skincare. When I was hired the Obagi rep asked if I wanted to try the system. I was 28 at the time, grew up in Florida on the beach so.... yes lol We did a vizia before photo. Outwardly my skin looked great but I had hidden damage lurking.
I started a regular kit. She warned me about all the unpleasantness during the first 6 to 8 weeks. Redness, irritation, dryness, rawness!! I was peeling and red, while at work mind you, covered in spf. I was also doing the decolletage system, so my neck and chest were also just as unpleasant. For me, this part lasted 8 weeks. Then my skin started healing, no peeling, it didnt feel raw. It was pink for another month.
It was worth all of it
All the pain. My skin looked air brushed. Im almost 40 now and it still looks good. I continue to use tretinoin most nights, spf daily and reapplied. I use vit c serum or an acid during the day, somedays.
I also use emu oil. Its kinda amazing stuff..💦
