Terrible list

1. The witcher 3 (8/10) - probably the only game in the whole awards which i actually agree with the victory of, its such a fantastic rpg and it utterly destroys every and each souls games when it comes to quest design and the sheer scope of its world

2. Elden ring (6/10) - it does somethings really great for the series such as the ammount of new mechanics to make different builds stand out, the inclusion of stealth mechanics being #1 for me, even better being how the A.I is FINALLY an improvement compared to how dumb they were in previous titles. sadly, itemization sucks, a lot of bosses feel like second thoughts included only to lenghten the game up, the quest design is still utter crap and they keep following Ds3´s design philosophy of giving you a bunch of bonfires close to each other, which makes level design basically useless as you can run throught every stage going from bonfire to bonfire and never die, the only reason someone might want to fight an enemy, is so they can level up and at this point, the game is just a grind instead of a dangerous adventure, boss fights are however, very well done and for the most part this is the most fun you will have with Pvp in the series.

3. God of war 2018 (4/10) - Reused enemies, generic storyline about a father trying to be better, characterization is weak, most plot points feel disjointed and theres no time to feel the weight of some major plot points, the entire progression is going in a straight line, puzzles are braindead and for the most part, it feels like a waste

4. The last of us part 2 (4/10) - Its a revenge story, gameplay is more annoying than fun, puzzles are still dumb, the whole thing feel pointless at the end, its a waste of time and quite insulting to fans of the first one, atleast if you dont enjoy torture.

5. Overwatch (5/10) - i actually think this is only mediocre, which should put it above the other entries. why it doesnt? because we are talking about 2016 and Titanfall 2 is not only game of the year, but game of the decade.

6. Sekiro (3.5/10) - A game without player expression in which the gameplay loop is so utterly limited that you have to either train it constantly or follow a bunch of guides, theres no feel of reward once you ve killed bosses nor any adventure to be had, its frankly extremely bland and uninteresting as a result.

7. It takes two (???) - played for 30 minutes and dropped it, cant say if its good or bad, but WoTR was much more deserving from what ive played.

8. Dragon age inquisition (3/10) - once somebody told me this game was good, what that person was on? its a fucking moronic mmorpg masked as a singleplayer game, the combat consists of nothing but rotating skills, dungeon design is almost non existent, combat encounters are nothing but damage sponges full of elemental resistances and for the most part you are doing nothing but REQUIRED fetch quests in order to fill a fucking facebook-like energy bar and continue the main story. Its a dumb game and the fact it pretty much ruins the lore by confirming the existence of divinities make it even worse. Not even DA 2 was as insulting.

9. Breath of the wild (2.5/10) - "the future of open world games" then i dont want to play these anymore. THERES NOTHING this game does right. itemization is ruined by weird damage scalation and terrible durability mechanics, the content is sparse and quest design is terrible, theres barely any dungeons in the game, shrines are repetitive in assets, puzzles and even share the SAME theme, the story if fucking pitiful and its laughable at best (zelda is NOT a strong female character, the ONLY thing she does in the whole narrative is doing something that still leads to her depending on link, theres ZERO character development), even combat is utter garbage and lacks depth with the repetitive nature of the extremely low enemy variety. Its an awful game that made modern open world games even more retarded than they used to be.

i didnt like gow ragnarok very much, the gameplay was pretty much the same and yeah the boss designs were better but in gow 2018 the boss fights felt like boss fights that i had to learn and beat, ragnaroks bosses were trash

My ranking: I’m just gonna go ahead and put Baldurs Gate 3 in this ranking because we all know its winning.
1. Elden Ring 10/10 (just simply one of the greatest games ever made).
2. Baldur’s Gate 3 10/10 (Larian is just better. My dream game now is a Larian Star Wars game).
3. Breath of the Wild 9/10 (bro idk if it was just the novelty of it but this may have been the best experience I’ve ever had playing a video game for the first time).
4. The Last of Us 2 9/10 (love the story, dont like the order that the story is being told).
5. The Witcher 3 9/10
6. Sekiro 8.5/10 (I like the parry its fun bro)
7. God of War 8/10 (Rdr2 shoulda won)

You've got to be kidding...lmao Last of Us 2 is nowhere near number 1... there's so much wrong with that game... and it's gameplay is average...imagine playing long stretches with an awful character...

While Last of Us 1 had the same issues with gameplay being average, its story is a million times better... as is the world building and intrigue(the last one might be because it was a new world but still)

I have never understood why people think TLOU2 has a good story

My friend and I really enjoyed It Takes Two, it was surprisingly amazing, the gameplay wasn't all that but the witcher 3 definitely has one of the best stories in gaming history, everyone was on overwatch the minute it came out, sekiro may have been a major departure from the souls series but it was definitely damn satisfying, at first I was surprised RDR2 lost to God of war but looking back at it now it makes sense, Elden Ring definitely deserved GOTY there was really no competition ever since it released, and TLOU2's story was crap but it was deep and the gameplay was polished I won't lie 🤔

Death Stranding will forever be underrated

Gonna have to disagree with ya on tlou2. Story was badly paced, heavily relying on flashbscks, many argue the story would have been better told in a different order. Forced empathy with Abby, you literally play as her right after she kills joel (obvious empathy trap) in a game where everyone expected to play as Ellie (i mean shes the front cover of the game). The main theme of the game boils down to revenge is bad narrative

I respect your opinions, especially on TLOU Part 2, but the Witcher 3 was definitely deserving of GOTY. Base game was so full of content, story telling, world building, character growth, fucking GWENT, so many choices and dialogue options that shape the entire world- groundbreaking game in every way, then they dropped DLC for it (Blood and Wine, Hearts of Stone)that made the game all that better. Said it already but I’ll say it again, it was 100% GOTY.

Dragon age inquisition is an amazing rpg. You must not have played on the right difficulty if you think you just push the same button lol. On high difficulty its an amazing strategic game

I was farming the loot cave in middle school. That's basically still what Destiny is to me, seeing as I stopped soon after that, and never tried the sequel.

BOTW and GOW with hindsight definitely go lower now just from waning novelty and they’re so outclassed by their own sequels (now my two favorite games ever) TLOU’s dynamic feeling combat encounters alone easily deserved game of the year, sekiro’s great but fire emblem was definitely snubbed imo

everyone who played xenoblade 3 and who saw the game of the year nominations was in agreement that while xenoblade 3 is a great game because monolithsoft is just great at writing and especially their gorgeous worlds there was 0 chance that it would be winning any awards given that elden ring exists and shared every category with xenoblade 3.

on a side note i always find it wierd how games that already are goty nominees also get to double and sometimes triple dip through other categories. it makes those categories kinda moot cause being a goty candidate already implies that you are the king of your genre that year.

I honestly stopped caring for the game awards winners, because it always felt faked to me. Though I do like that they show new trailers there, which is to me, the only redeeming quality of the game awards.

Re: God of War, the correct collective noun is a murder of gods.

There was no greater snub than God of War winning over Red Dead Redemption 2. The former feels like it was made by a committee in a board room, the latter is the most technologically advanced video game to this very day, with mechanics and features that few other games have.

It takes two is definitely an oddball in this list wtf
