Uhhh. Yeah. That's definitely it. Not because it takes online tutorials to configure the most basic of games or accessories.

Proton has made gaming on Linux much easier

On LFS, had a kernel option turned off which was Joystick support. I don't have a XBOX gamepad, but I have Nintendo Switch ones, so I added the hid_nintendo option. Mainly checked this to see if I needed a specific X driver or if libinput and libevdev was enough.

The thing is that I dont play on linux bcz is not having all packages that are needed for a soft experience as much as possible for new linux users. Always is install this update that. 😂😅 I just wanna connect my joysticks and game.. crap... eaither way... I love linux, i'm just waiting the right distro update to just game on the go.

Playing racing games on Linux sucks. I didn't find a way to get the trigger rumble on my wired xbox one controllers to work. Huge disadvantage if you want to be competitive at F1 or Dirt Rally.

Converted to Linux a while ago because I need more than 20 min battery life on my laptop.

Now, I tell you why I don't even bother to try gaming on Linux.

Everything. Every-Thing and anything in Linux needs to manually be configured and each thing takes half a day to fix, IF it's even fixable.
Everything from the touchpad to earphones, keyboard to power management. It's such a waste of time, energy and spirit trying to configure things that Simply Just Works in a plug-n-play Microsoft Windows machine.

I must be a paid shill if I think computers are always becoming more user friendly.

It annoys me that I can't use my Series X controller on Linux wirelessly without faffing with third-party software, and it especially annoys me when I'm using Linux distros like Batocera which don't really work with stuff like that.

I don't use Steam.

I really like gaming on linux, although the biggest problem i've run into is getting EAC to work. Its the only reason I still dual boot windows

It is not working with wine game

Hey, can a smart boy like you figure out how to update xbox controller firmware without using windows? I couldn't accomplish that with a Win10 VM. Guess the name of that very special usb device which refused to connect properly, when all the others did? By the end of the day I had a good laugh and dropped any attempts. Oh yes, there is some issues (not linux related) which can be fixed only with firmware update. i.e. in my case games such as "Night in the Woods" and "Ghost of a Tale" both think that the left key on dpad is pressed down, but it isn't. Finally found some of those rare games I'd like to play and I can't. Thank you microsoft.

Only one problem with Linux for me. XPpen tablet area adjustment + mouse feels uncomfortable in the game called osu!. (And any windows exclusive drivers for example logitech.)

also, for games on lutris you really should try Kozec's SC-controller, also works with ps4 controller. It actually replaced steam input on linux because i wasn't using any custom SC-API config except for American/Euro Truck Simulator.

Basically it's a good GLOSC for linux, and my guess is it is better than glosc

resident evil 7 gave me 2 blue screen of death, so i when i installed in linux and started playing i was shocked because it ran better without any stutter.

Anti-cheat is the main villain in my opinion, and some games simply don't work or don't open in the first time, like The Darkness 2, also GTA 4 and 5 don't install the fucking rockstar launcher in proton 5.9 GE i had to use 4.21 to install and then change it back, but i somehow did something wrong and i still can't play GTA 4 on linux (yet), before july (i think) it was alright, but now rockstar made it worse somehow

I've managed to get pretty much every game I wanted running on linux. The only problem i faced was the huge performance difference windows vs linux version. This difference of performance makes a few games basically unplayable on linux.

I found configuring gamepads (specifically dualshock 3) much easier on linux systems. Probably one of the only things I found easier when it comes to gaming. Not that everything else was much harder but still.

also don't forget that you could control your game any way you want, steam supports motion controls, but it's up to the game to support mouse and controller movement at the same time.

Plz do a tutorial on how to setup gentoo for gaming cuz every once a week I go back to arch and I want to do everything on gentoo

sounds easy. you did not go over defaneing the buttons and what not to setup profiles to make steam load into that and make sure that it works. i had to do that. but yea it works fine.
im still on Gentoo for its cooler than Arch.

Most tend to not only copy the 360's layout, but also function. Not to mention, it was the first to introduce
XInput and it's API if I'm not mistaken. So unless you're using something very old, XInput it is

The generic controller support setting is probably for most controllers. Because many games don't recognize what type of controller gets used. They just deal with button and axes ids or basically expect the layout to be the same as an xbox controller. So the specialized support will probably help some games to for adjusting hints which button should be pressed exactly... for example "Press the X button." for all controllers would cause major confusion.

if you get a pc to game on i think you probably get it either for graphics and better performance or you get it for the keyboard and mouse so i would say the most important peripherals is keyboard and mouse
