This is a thought provoking video about Japan. I recently visited Japan and found it to be profoundly interesting. I visited the Japanese War Museum. The Museum makes no mention of the atrocities committed by the Japanese Imperial Army against enemy soldiers or conquered civilians. It does not mention the Bataan Death March, Massacre of Nanjing, and the brutal colonization of Korea. Instead the Museum focused on their victory against the European Colonizers in Asia and the Pacific. The Museum also gave accounts about how well Imperial Russian soldiers were treated after the Imperial Japanese Army took the Russian Fortress of Port Arthur and the Naval Base of Lushen in North Eastern China. Injured Imperial Russian soldiers were treated in Japanese Hospitals, fed, and returned to Russia. If this is true then this theory about Bushido, i.e. civilians and soldiers who surrender forfeited their honor and should be treated inhumanely, have no basis in reality. Bushido sounds like another excuse to commit atrocities. The Filipino-American forces who defended the Philippines fought on for 5 months with no hopes of resupply nor reinforcement. The Japanese did not like the determined Filipino-American resistance. In China the Japanese had been fighting since 1931 when the Japanese Imperial Army put the defeated Qing Emperor back on the his thrown (1932) against the Chinese Republicans who overthrew the Qing Emperor. Nanjing was the Chinese Republican Government's capital. Again the Chinese Nationalist Army gave the Japanese Imperial Army determined resistance. After driving the Chinese Nationalist Army out of Nanjing the Japanese Imperial Army went on the rampage and slaughtered some 300,000 unarmed civilians. The things done to the Koreans are too extreme and too long to list. The inconsistency between the treatment of defeated Imperial Russian soldiers & sailors versus every other defeated people cannot be explained by Bushido. Still I have to admit that Japanese are the only non-Western, non-caucasian people to change their society from a pre-industrial, feudal society to an industrial, European-style constitutional Monarchy. The Japanese knew their feudal system would lead to domestic in-fighting among the feudal daimyos when powerful European forces disrupt domestic balance of power. The second and third most powerful daimyos formed an alliance to overthrow the most powerful daimyo, i.e. the Tokugawa Shogun. They used the banner of the Meiji Emperor to legitimize their war. After their victory they claimed the Restoration of Imperial Rule. The political maneuvering worked as other daimyos reluctantly agreed to the new order. Their industrial development was driven by the desire for a modern or industrialized military. With an industrialized military the new Japanese Imperial Government can counter European Powers. Much of the new Japanese Imperial Government came from the two daimyo clans who defeated the Tokugawa Shogunate. The Satsuma and Choshu Warrior Class, i.e. the Samurais, filled the membership of the Imperial Japanese Government. Yes, the Japanese changed their governmental system. They no longer had 200 daimyos with 200 feuding armies. Japan had one national army directed by a singular interest under the banner of the Meiji Emperor. However, the traditions and thinking of the feudal warriors (the Samurai Class) were alive and firmly entrenched in the Imperial Japanese Government. The philosophy of using warfare to settle domestic and international disputes remain. Members of the Imperial Japanese Government against using warfare were assassinated by members of the army and navy. Foreign countries were attacked, conquered, and subjugated. Yes, Japan is a very interesting country. On the surface there are many contradictions. Dig a little deeper and Japanese history makes a lot of sense.

As a Japanese, I wish our country could continue to have the Edo era vibes from the 19th century combined with the modern anime culture. That would make a super awesome one-of-a-kind epic fantastic dream paradise to live in.

As a Chinese who loves Japan and living in Japan really much, I really can't agree saying "unique culture completely unlike any other culture". It is very unique, but definitely not "completely unlike" All those ancient culture things shown in the videos are highly similar and affected by ancient Chinese culture
