To lead by example and block shots and risk your body as a star player and a leader that shows that your heart is with the team and would die for anyone out there only great leaders will be this way

To give you an idea how long he played, he actually played with Darryl Sittler, Brad Park and Rick MacLeish his first two years.

Many of the highlights shown were Yzerman playing at Chicago Stadium.
Steve played outstanding at the home of the Blackhawks. I personally saw him get 2 Hat tricks at the Stadium. His game was perfect for the smaller ice surface : more quick than fast , great hands , quick release , tough.
He was never booed by Hawk fans. He was the most respected opponent I've seen. We all just wanted him on the Hawks. He would have been even better.

Here in Detroit during the 90s, we knew Stevie was the guy who would lead the team to the cup, took a while but we knew it was going to happen eventually

He had some nice goals but man, the goalies and defencemen were sooo much worse back then compared to what I’m used to seeing nowadays. They’re just flopping around on some of these goals lol

I'm 43 and I still tear up when I see Stevie raise the Cup for the first time in 1997, just two days after I graduated from high school. It's something you can't write.

I live in Michigan ... and when Wings got him, they were really bad. I remember seeing the first few stat sheets & box scores (because they were not on TV all the time like now) and saying "who is this Yizzerman guy - he is doing okay?" Then it started to build and build . before you knew it we all knew how to pronounce his name. Then it was announced that Danny Gare wasn't the Captain anymore & Yzerman never looked back..... The legend of OUR Stevie Y was born..... !

You can’t get any better in landing a guy to lead your organization. Now doing it from off the ice in the Wings front office, look for Detroit to become the powerhouse they used to be very soon. The city of Detroit hit the lotto when we got Stevie. And we all know it.
