Yeah, we suspected they would do this so we've been taking distributions since 2021. Starting with a 10th of the original balance and each year subsequent, 9th, 8th, 7th etc. Trust no one. Trust the IRS even less.

When you think you know everything about cryptocurrencies, UNIMANTIC PROTOCOL comes along and says, 'Watch how it's done, baby!

Other cryptocurrencies may try to be cool, but UNIMANTIC PROTOCOL simply challenges them and says, 'Look at me and learn from the great one!

Part of my $325,000 inheritance from my older brother in 2020 was about $18,000 from his traditional IRA (originally our mother's). Now the balance of this inherited traditional IRA is $1200.

I guess it is fine that the IRS keeps kicking the can down the road on this. Someday they will come to their senses and realize that a 10 year withdrawal timeline and an RMD is absurd.

The thought of an RMD on a inherited Roth IRA — which I have heard proposed — just makes my head hurt.

The rules worked for me. Inherited IRA in 2020 while still working in the highest tax bracket. RMDs have been forgiven 2020-2024 which was better for me than the old stretch would have been. I just retired so have 6 years (2025-2030) to get the money out which is perfect as I am now in lower tax bracket and will live off the distributions until SS kicks in in 2030.

what about the earnings in that 10 yr period?
Dose the rule require you to drain the account (inherited amount + earnings during the 10 yrs)? Or just spend down the original inherited amount???

Still confused. So, my Mom left me and my sister about $139,000 in an inherited IRA which is now sitting at Schwab. Do I just need to withdraw that amount of money before the 10 years expires i.e. take out 5k for 8 years and then take the biggest portion once I'm retired and in a lower tax bracket. Or, is there a fomrula somehwhere that says you need to withdraw 11% (as an example) a year until depleted?

I'd like to know how to figure out the RMD going forward. Deseadant passed in 2024 and was taking RMD. I have taken the balance of RMD for '24 for my portion (adult child beneficiary). Is the RMD figured on the year-end balance of 2024 going forward or year-end each year going forward. Is that balance my portion... ? Please explain and add a link to a calculator for this. Thank you!
