MG actually offer a whacking 7 years warranty, not 5! Apologies about this slip-up!

I got one of these today brand new registered but not sold 0 miles (72 plate uk) the car was 31 thousand new it's the excite long range I got it for 21 thousand pretty happy with the price can any one tell me how these cars are to live with I got it for my Mrs to run the children around an get to and from work reviews online are promising.

The facelift looks a lot better by the way but I got the model before the facelift got 10 grand less and it's the same car basically by all accounts.

Thank you for the helpful review. I have my own driver training business and so many want to learn in an automatic, so trying to work out whether to get a battery powered car, this is a bit big but still helpful. Thank you.

MG bought by cheap fools. By buying a Chinese car, unlike any other purchase, you are directly supporting a Chinese Communist Party owned company and undermining western companies (including from democratic countries like japan and Korea). China are a communist/totalitarian regime, they want slowly dismember western economies. All car companies in China are directly or indirectly owned by the CCP. You are supporting CCP design, technology, and engineering. China are a self proclaimed enemy of western democracy and free people, fact. Buying Chinese cars will change the power dynamic and erode western freedoms. China cannot allow freedom of thought or speech, it is a threat to their regime. They need to extinguish freedom in as many places as possible. All empires/civilisations spread their model.

By increasing the power of Chinese companies like MG, we are walking ourselves in to totalitarian control. If you think it seems too far fetched think again. If you think this process will be benign, you are wrong. China will slowly tighten their grip on democracy, it is already starting to happen, they already demand other nations to limit their freedom of speech. On the current course, in the not too distant future, your government will be indirectly controlled by China, your government will impose decisions handed down by China. You will not be able to protest or question these decisions. You, your children, and grandchildren will grow up without any freedom for the rest of your/their lives.

As one example China forcibly sterilised and aborted their own women in the 80's, dragged them in to horrific surgeries, now the Uyghurs are being subjected to the same treatment.

Drive one of these as a taxi and absolutely love it. Good price, plenty of space, decent range and some great safety features

Thanks

Thanks for your great quick review. The LR MG5 now has adaptive cruise control which uses regen braking rather than the normal brakes. It also has Lane keep assist.

Thank you for this review. It made me very interested in the vehicle. I did further review research and have now bought one. Arrives in two weeks. Without your review, I may not have been introduced to the car. I've gone for the MG5 Long Range Exclusive.

I just hope they've improved the rust proofing underneath seen a few 1-2 year old MGs that look worse than my 11 year old shitbox daily C1 underneath.

At this time it look like Chinese understood what average European driver wants. Regular size (in European understanding) car. Body design without Asian bling. Comfortable enough to sit and drive. Driving comfort and acceleration seems good enough. Normal control knobs instead of all controls tucked into single touch panel (which is real driving hazard). 400 km range from single charge is already enough for many city dwellers without dedicated parking spot to charge once in a week - good. Not oversized wheels that cause huge expenses on tire rotation. 7 wear warranty where many European manufactures give only 5 years ;) Would like to see safety test results, however overall impression is very good. Manufacturer should only change media screen panel from glossy to matte.

Nice review! Too bad an inexpensive EV estate/ station wagon is not sold here in Canada. A car like this should sell well here.

MG Pilot on the 5 uses regen to slow the car, not discs and pads which is good news.

I think you missed the fundamental point of this update apart from the increased range: the MG5 now has MG Pilot and the all the driver assist and safety features that are present on the MG ZSEV but missing on this model; it is a big deal.

Two questions.
1/. Has it a rear internal light?
2/. Is it still fitted with the appalling Bridgestone tyres? They are borderline dangerous.
The vehicle is absolutely transformed by replacing them with Michelin Cross Climate tyres.
Done 25,000 miles in mine and it is truly a wonderful car (even better with new tyres)

OK, so I'm old enough to remember the MG B (fondly!). Lovely sportscar. I know a Chinese company bought the MG badge (trademark rights) but this vehicle is a huge departure from the MG B. Cognitive dissonance? But I like that its an EV. It's not sold in the US. "Not a driver's car," is disappointing for the marque.
(Still enjoy listening to that accent.)

I was impressed with the MG5 from the word go. It has a utility aspect that I really love. Some seem to complain about the plain looks - like its outdated.. Is that actually a bad thing? I doubt it.

Hello Trish. I have some interesting info on EVs in general which consumers ought to be aware of but none of the reviewers worldwide brings them to the attention of consumers. Misconceptions are therefore widespread. If you are interested to make a video as many people are already turning their attention to EVs feel free to let me know.
