Forspoken Revisited on PS5: Better Visuals, Higher Performance... But What About The Game?

So i'm confused....
So PS4 games played on the PS4 Pro/PS5 can achieve 2160p perfectly.
But PS5 native games are having problems staying above 720p? O.o
Did we just go backwards.....What is this, 2009?

for everyone wondering- performance mode is still blurry, especially with the foliage which falls apart and is distractingly blurry, noisy, and weird looking although not as bad as before, and it still drops some frames in the open world and combat. the other two main modes fix the issue for the gross looking foliage but looks significantly choppy with quite a lot of input delay. though, the performance mode is finally (in my opinion) playable. although not preferable nor great, and 100% would rather play in 40hz quality.

I honestly don’t think Forspoken is that bad of a game. Certainly not game of the year material, but not as bad as people make it out to be.

What about the dynamic resolution that was causing motion blur everytime the camera movied. I could not play it on ps5 anymore due to my sore eyes, and coudn"t stand not being able to see enemies clearly because of the fast nature of the game, I'd be moving and attacing enemies and all I see is motion blur smear.

I expected better from Digital Foundry. FF16 isn’t even a true open world RPG. FF16 has linear small levels, loading for each map instance and mostly cutscenes with minimal interaction. Forspoken is a true open world RPG which is highly impressive. FF16 you load and instance into each section of the story and the areas are small in comparison with very linear pathing.

Comparing Forspoken to FF16 which came out a half year later with full support of SE is not remotely fair.

Shame the bias and overt instinctive hatred people have for Forspoken is downright discriminatory.

Anyone in here noticed the copy pasted stars in the night sky??

This Game is so much better that Atomic Heart, Callisto protocol or Dying light 2 so far and and these did not receive so much hate 😅 not a masterpiece but a pretty fun game.

No amount of patching can make a garbage game good.

Why is this host always on low volume and muffled mic?

Revisited gameplay videos are the ones that makes me buy games.
Really enjoying Forspoken right now, started without expectations and and pretty fun.

I wish Jedi Survivor gets a similar treatment in performance.

I'm trying to figure out what's a better option - Quality 120Hz or RT 120Hz?
Any suggestions?

This is Honest Objective Opinion. Forspoken now is Amazing Game that we can draw parallel with Secret Of Evermore on SNS when other games were Legend of Mana , Chrono Trigger ect. Many skipped Secret Of Evermore back in then but later it become revelation and same is with Forspoken, it's Large World with Story that is explaining whole in game world and all Action that is happening and especially after this Update. Who don't know what is Secret Of Evermore go and see and remember that during it's life on SNS it was rated as bad or average but for me it was something that I was able to relate especially because I was watching Movies without synchronization, I had and still have the freedom to hear the voices of actors

Agni's Philosophy should have been the game we got instead of Forspoken. Agni's character design was so appealing and the main character for Forspoken is so bad. Square Enix wanted to make a game with western looks and writings and they failed so hard. Good

I havent played to Forspoken, is the game is better with 1.2 patch? I mean all the negative points that were higlighted during the first review?

I really enjoyed this game and now I have a reason to play it all over again. I cant wait 😎👍

Thanks for this revisit video. The revisit to the PC version sounded more optimistic about the game than this video. I am not sure if this just two different people coming to different opinions or if the PC version is considered better.
A few more thoughts:
I strongly disagree with critiques saying Forspoken is empty. There are plenty of things to do in this apocalyptic world.
It is unfair to compare Forspoken with FF16, especially as a means to criticize a game's engine. If I had to guess, Forspoken didnt have the same amount of money put into it as FF16. Also, I am pretty sure FF16 dev team had a whole year just to polish the game. You also have Forspoken developed for PS5 & PC while FF16 was just for PS5. They are apples and oranges.

I really dig this medium because I can enjoy Forspoken immensely and find FFXVI to be boring trash and I get to have that. Feels nice.

i wonder if forspoken is realy failure? it still sold rank around 10 above jedi survivor in uk. last check is rank 1 is final fantasy16 rank2 is totk

Hope they do this for FF16. Performance mode on that game looks horrendous.

Oliver, you have become almost everything I like about Digital Foundry. And now this. Yes! These days we need you to revisit games which struggled at launch. Or games DF missed at launch for whatever reason. Thanks for your great work!

Uh, the games look VERY SIMILAR IN STYLE, TONE, ETC.

If this piece of poo can be fixed, Jedi Surivor should be too. Jedi Survivor straight up looks horrible in "performance" mode.

It's amazing the visual difference that can come just to a change from how lighting is handled. It looks worlds better now.

It's still on my to buy list. I'm fully anticipating it to be middle of the road, but I'm OK with that.

I don't understand all the bashing on Forspoken. I love FF16 and it's one of the best games in a long time from SE, but I also enjoyed and played Forspoken all the way through.... Sure it's not perfect graphically, but it was fun.

It's at least nice to see that they are still making it a better experience, even tho it is still a flawed game.
Many companies nowadays don't even bother, even when the game sold well and/or is critically aclaimed. Like Elden Ring and Jedi Fallen Order.

no matter how much patches and fixes you make, if your protagonist is an unlikable woke, mary sue character its simply irredeemable.

I really wanna play this game but it's not been cracked yet.

I must admit that I had quite a bit more fun with Forspoken's combat system compared to FFXVI. While Forspoken does take some time to get used to, it feels more comprehensive to me, like the different spells and abilites are meant to work in conjunction with each other and the different enemy types. Controlling Clive in FFXVI on the other hand feels almost like a poor man's Devil May Cry with a combo system that is not worth using, because you are not rewarded for it, and abilities that for the most part just do damage and almost nothing else. There's hardly any crowd control, no buffs or debuffs, no vulnerabilities or other interesting RPG combat mechanics. The more Eikon abilities you get, the more apparent this becomes, because basic abilities and combos are even less important. It's basically just fill the stagger, do damage, repeat.

This game is ass with or without performance issues.

Final Fantasy has much better team working on it.. a pure Japanese team to be precise
Both 2 games Budgets are close, but better team of FF is a solid winner.. gamesplay, story, graphics, world..etc
Forspoken don't even have a good protagonist.. a waste of developing time & money

Almost bought Forspoken during this past Steam sale but I decided to hold off for an even bigger sale this Black Friday. Hopefully the PC version also benefits from all of these PS5 updates.

Forspoken 1.2 is better, I hope Forspoken 1.3 will be realesed one day and will be good !
