I will argue that it is a good concept. Explore the universe outside of the Xenomorph. They are interesting but at the same time they are not everything.

I'm a huge Alien franchise fan. I know a lot of people expressed disappointment with Prometheus, but I loved it. I found the idea of the engineers so fascinating, I really hope they continue with this story line.

Lucky for Shaw that Vickers died. Bear Grylles' "experiment" showed us what happens when a gaggle of women are left together.

Actually, if you read the online screenplay it was much richer than the movie ever was.
The Engineer didn't get angry until Jackson hit Shaw with his gun.
We also learned that the Juggernaut would take two months to get to Earth. Prometheus took two years.
A fuzz over Warp Two for the Prometheus; a fuzz under Warp Six for the Juggernaut.

If there was an alien growing inside of Charlie or not we do not know because he was burned which could have destroyed the alien inside. Keep in mind that in Covenant tiny spores entered two of the crew members and spawned an alien inside of them. Come to think about it that process only took hours and Charlies took all night but did not show the same symptoms as in Covenant (vometing blood).

The Engineers knew about the Xenomorph according to the mural on the wall so they must have tested it on someone. If that military factillity was around 2000 years old then they must have afflicted humans before seeing as they were on Earth 35K years ago, but that would raise the question of what happend to all these Xenomorphs.... To those that would say that the black goo wasn't avaliable keep in mind the Engineer drank some in the beginning of the movie meaning what? Millions of years ago? Was it before the dinosaurs? Yet the alien inside Shaw looks nothing like a Deacon or Xenomorph but when one emerged from the Engineer it had changed form completely. Why do the creatures differ so much if we have 100% match with the Engineers?

There is also a question on what killed the Engineers. The recordings show the Engineers running for their lives but there is nothing in the recording showing what chased them. When the Prometheus crew walked into that chamber there were maggots crawling on the ground, how did life survive there for millenias with nothing to eat? The planet is barren, nothing grows. Speaking of growing, how did Shaw's alien the size of a cat become the size of a cow in just a few hours? Even in the old movies a small Xenomorph would burst through a humans chest and run away but never to stay and eat, yet the all grow immensely. Just look at the size of a queen. Five times as big and producing hundreds of eggs without eating anything.

And how about the security on the Engineers planet. An old ship of 2000 years suddenly flys over a town without any clearance codes. The civilians are standing there and cheering as the phials of black goo are dropped on them. The goo freezes them and spreads to every bird, and fauna on the planet (the meat if you will) but there are not millions of aliens to be seen and the ones we do see don't look like a Xenomorph even though there had to be millions of Engeinners on the planet in different towns and yet again keep in mind that the DNA sample showed that we are a match but we look really nothing alike. It would have made more sense if we were like 98% match considering the small percentage different between humans and apes which shows that a small degree that mean a lot to our evolution.

I think I could go on and on. I do like the movie but I dislike that it raised more questions then it answered.

Maybe they wanted to kill all on earth because they new the Aliens where going to use humans for their offspring..

What if the Xenomorph's created the engineers in an ancient time when they basically ate the whole universe and were starving. Then, eventually the engineers re-created their creator and so on and so on😅

It was the Tet that that made the engineers along with technician 49 Tom Cruise and from there Xenu.

The Gardener Engineer kicks off life - presumably from the start of Procaryotes? - then how does evolution result in a species (human) with the EXACT same DNA as the Engineer? Nah

Ford (played by Kate Dickie) was infuriatingly dumb. Her character just repeats whatever is on the console at any given moment in an overly-affected Scottish accent ("CO2 is over 3 percent", "Atmosphere is almost nil" etc). Get tae fcuk.

The whole self-surgery scene where Shaw removes the Trilobyte baby is straight-up terrifying. Particularly given the obvious nod to a traditional Chest Burster Xenomorph via the machine removing the baby via her abdomen. It really made my skin crawl! Too bad the movie wasn't a bit better and let to the fairly disappointing Covenant. Oh well...

Now I really want a "Jesus was an alien" T-shirt, lol.

I watched this movie without knowing it was connected to the alien franchise ( also haven’t watched any of the alien movies ) so imagine my shock and confusion when a freaking xenomorph shows up at the very end lmao.

Super late to the party so this is doubtfully an original thought, but I question whether David really asked the Engineer crusty trillionaire’s question or Shaw’s. He might not have understood her motivation but he was fascinated with everything creation.
And of course there’s the possibility he spoke his own mind. Perhaps he said “please rip my head off and then decimate everyone else here”

David doesn't want to satisfy Wayland. At least not only. He is creative, has its own will and wants to create. That's quite obvious and its main driver ultimately.

I was 17 and just took some edibles. Watched pirates of the caribbean 5 and didnt register a thing. Was pretty n kinda funny but then me my mum and a friend snuck into the next showing and watched aliens covenent. I wasnt into aliens but all of a sudden i was ingulfed in a world i knew nothing about. The visuals and buildup was amazing. I went home and wondered what i just watched. About 3 years later covid is strong and im working at a gate for my community and have nothing but time and weed. I watched ALL the alien movies and my mind was blown. Give it another year and i finally watch prometheus and everything clicked. I love these movies n still remember the feelings of suspense, enchantment, confusion, and oh shit when i watched it the first time. Only got my girl to watch prometheus n prey but shell work up to the rest

This movie was good but soo stupid ..the two guys getting lost in the beginning then they go into a room with goo everywhere on an alien planet and touch some snake thing 😒 they lost me after that

You can really tell how he amps up being so animated and expressive with his tone and everything over time…six years ago makes a lot of difference 😂

The most unrealistic detail in this movie is how the Doctor scientists all behave like GED graduates instead!

This was a dumb movie, wish I didn’t watch it. Nothing even made sense. Who would just touch a random alien snake.

We were made in gods image; the engineers, we made a simulation of our own; AI. What would AI make? Time travel? The extinction of all life? Hense the weaponized "goo" in case of a necessary reset perhaps.

I'm pretty sure those were aliens on that planet.
