ОтветитьUse weed cloth the weeds can't grow through, and mulch around the plants to keep moisture in and the weeds down.
ОтветитьMulch helps a lot with weed suppression and cuts down on need to water as often Stubborn weeds can be killed with boiling water and/or vinegar Just make sure to apply only to weeds at the root ( weeds are plants growing where you don’t want them 😊) because it will also kill other plants
ОтветитьMulch, mulch, mulch...it will keep weeds down and help tremendously with conserving water
ОтветитьHi there..I love yoir,e channemll.Tara can you speak /undetstand Afrikaans?
ОтветитьYou need to do permaculture so much easier and less work
ОтветитьMorning John and Tara, I enjoyed watching your latest video and being a mother of two grown sons I love watching your boys have the freedom they have on your beautiful farm. Can I just ask Tara, do you put your weeds on your compost heap? We have an allotment (although this year with our awful weather isn’t doing quite as well as we would like ) and my husband puts weeds on our compost. Just not sure if it’s the right thing to do. 😊
ОтветитьHave you thought of putting the garden in raised beds with gravel in between the beds to keep down weeds in the walkway? The raised beds would be easier to weed and less work with more production. Just a thought.
ОтветитьWay to go Newbie and Joao!
ОтветитьI feel you, I also hate plumbing. My absolute least favorite home-owner things to deal with.
ОтветитьAlways look forward to your videos. You both are so interesting to listen to. Love that you both interact in your channel, and the kids are always a joy to watch, well and OB too!!
ОтветитьI have a small vegetable garden and went to doing raised beds a few years ago. I work a lot so I don't have a lot of time. The raised beds help greatly with significant reduction in weeds and better keeps things more organized for me. Though, I must say, you all did an amazing job with all that weeding. Obi is adorable and you are right--they do choose their human--and Crusoe is his. ❤ Bummer on that water pipe incident. I do love how Crusoe and Sawyer get to be involved in the projects in their own little boy ways. They are learning so much! 😊
ОтветитьPoor John, his trials and tribulations with water. He either has too much falling on his head, bubbling in the ground or none to be found. I finally caught up with your home/land videos and I must say that over time I have come to feel like you are family to me. Thanks for all your love and kindness you show to all life.
ОтветитьIs a irrigation system any help?
ОтветитьYou can always do raised beds, but that would take some investment. The cardboard version is a good first step. Not as much money in involved. And you probably have enough cardboard. If that doesn't stop the weeds, then I would go to raised beds.
Ответитьma'am. may i ask you, in your region, can we have Durian plant in portugal? , and may be you can spray baking soda in water, and pray to your play... i'm not sure for tomatoes
ОтветитьTry the Back to Eden method. 6-8 inches of mulch. Almost no weeds, pests or watering.
ОтветитьYou know you are at it when you get what we call “Murphy’s law” meaning if something goes wrong you can believe it will. Especially when you were trying so hard for your parents. I’m sure they were just glad to see you and especially the grand children .
Speaking of those sweet boys is just awesome. Loving all around that us around them.
Your garden is growing so fast and yes when harvest season starts almost every day you can pick something.
You do need a little help. But you are just great trying to help each other in your jobs. Take some time for yourselves too please don’t wear yourselves out. Love your show so much❤😊
Baby love sleeping in the digger!!!
ОтветитьTop notch help you have! Joao & Mario are brilliant. Very cool rendition of Ole Mac Donald's Farm while in the garden. Deep mulch will be your summer best friend in the garden.
ОтветитьIf you want an easier garden try looking up Anne of All Trades and David the Good. Anne is your ultimate lazy gardener and the way she sets up her garden means she doesn't have to water it and very minimum weeding. You have too much bare dirt around your plants which means the sun dries the soil out requiring watering. Also David the Good has good ideas for gardening in hot places. Both would make your life much easier :)
ОтветитьOh my goodness Tara, the weeding argh.. I complain about having to do my gardens 😊. João is just a star and he is so good with the boys as is Mario. Obi is so funny, what a wonderful time he has around the farm and he is definitely Crusoe’s wee pal. Well done John and João on sorting out the water issue. Brilliant ❤xx
ОтветитьTry mulch to keep the weeds down .
ОтветитьDramatic and magnificent as you all work your way through enormous challenges to a place of smooth sailing, step by step! I thank God for settling you near Mario and his marvellous digger, and Joao’s invaluable presence .…. & how happy Crusoe is to fall sleep 💤 in the digger. What wonderful experiences you are sharing with us. It seems plumbing is similar the world over, & I’m rejoicing that my second grandson is in his first year of four as a plumbing apprentice. Surely we’ll always need practical plumbers. Hats off to you John for persevering! And Tara & Joao, what a fabulous vege garden, such a marvellous accomplishment! Longing to help pull the weeds. You and John are also growing two wonderful little boys! Congratulations! 🩷
Ответить''We need help''............sounds and looks like you have been on a ''gap-year'' most of your adult life.........racking up over 25,000,000 views and over 177,000 subscribers, what with sponsors, merchandise and patreons I wonder how much money you are raking in..........We live in a working class area in England(my wife and myself) and have worked all our lives(46yrs each) and earn a total of £28,000 per year after tax and national insurance contributions !.......Now tell me who needs help.....no offence but you are living the dream totally unaware of any sort of hardship........of course you will delete this comment and pretend the real world does not exist.
ОтветитьI would suggest you plant some flowers in the rows that will encourage bees and other beneficial insects that keep beetles at bay.
ОтветитьWhat a busy time you're having!! Sorry about the water problems, how frustrating! The weeding looked back breaking, but such an improvement......lots of suggestons on here to minimise then coming back in the future!! The boys are wonderful to see, and Obi aww... though I was a bit worried he'd jump unto the huge hole!!!!😄 I did love the end music and art work that used to be on your videos, any chance of them coming back?!
ОтветитьOh guys what a great video. Then burst pipe! The boys enjoyed it though ❤
ОтветитьMy heart goes out to you, I’m in awe of your tenacity. Plod on Newbys, you guys rock!!
ОтветитьI’m here to say Oby is such a delight. I enjoy watching Oby in the background being the cutest thing ever ( besides your kids) !! Thank you for putting this silly grin on my face with the addition of your marvelous dog.
ОтветитьI think it would be a great idea to use the dry leaves you collect under the trees to mulch the soil around the vegetable plants in the garden, it will keep cool and moist and suppress some of the weeds.
ОтветитьThanks for the video now i understand why john hates plumbing there is always something happening but at least you managed to get it sorted just love how sweet sawyer looked behind the wall he is really growing so fast just like his big brother Tara try spraying garlic water on the plants for the bugs that is what my son in-law used 😊😊😊😊
ОтветитьLove the ups and downs; in all their rich tapestry. Refreshingly unpretentious, without any of the ‘wonder of me’ stuff!
Apart from the sheer pleasure of enjoying your vids, all the familial imprinting stuff is priceless and beyond compare. And there’s a digger too. # winning. 🍷 🍷
I notice your boys are named after literary characters. How about Gulliver for your next boy, or Rebecca Sunnybrook Newby if it's a girl?
ОтветитьPlant " stink afrikaner" flowers between your veggies keep the beetles away
ОтветитьGreat job Tara!! It’s doing so well and the Olive trees are amazing. All that hard work paying off now
ОтветитьSuch a lot going on. Crusoe asleep in the digger 😊 Sawyer looking happy and well and what would you do without Joel and family 😊
ОтветитьWhat a TEANSE Moment that was!.. But Kudos to the the heroes who ere able to reconnect the pipes!!! Just love this video! Plumbing! I am with John 100% when it comes to pluming!
ОтветитьI love what you've done with your beans! Sorry to hear that you have nutgrass, that will be a challenge for sure.
ОтветитьLove the old Mac Donald tune you played, and Sawyer is so so sweet.
ОтветитьWe had a remodel last year as well and just cant keep up with a garden and a house remodel- see it as a learning year and better to plant something and even to let weeds grow than leave it bare ground! So onto fall gardening and keep trying:)
ОтветитьDId you do anything to prep the soil when you planted the garden? or is the soil there in good shape so you could direct plant with no amendments..
ОтветитьJoao is such a hard worker he's a blessing to have.We live in Amish Country lancaster Pa Did you think of gardening like the Amish do with how they keep their gardens less work ,remedies for plants, less weeds to deal with and their gardens are beautiful.check into it and it works.Your paradise farm looks wonderful look at what you've done so far can u imagine a year from now what it will look like even more better.hang in there even if it seems like your hanging upside down.😂 you can do it.i adore your family your delighful.❤
ОтветитьI have 2 border collies. You just can’t go wrong with them. They’re such good dogs and so incredibly intelligent. So glad you got one for the boys. He’s absolutely gorgeous! ❤️
Edit…I should point out that you can absolutely go wrong with a border collie as with any breed, but because they’re super intelligent they learn very fast and that means undesirable behaviour as well as good behaviour 😉
