Nhan Tower is a famous tower in Phu Yen associated with many unsolved mysteries. The tower is located near the top of Nhan Mountain on the north bank of the Da Rang River.
Talking about the origin of this tower there are many legends. It is said that in the past, there was a fairy Thien Y A Na who descended to earth to teach the people living in this land everything from plowing, weaving, spinning ... to find a way to make a living. After the fairy returned to the fairy realm, the people of Champa because they remembered and wanted to pay tribute to the enlightener for their people built that tower to worship.
According to another legend, Tuy Hoa was a low-lying swamp with many sea monsters specializing in disturbing people's lives. Seeing this, Heaven sent the giant to fill the lowland, protecting the lives of the people. However, when the filling was almost finished, the giant rushed back, so he took on more stones, causing the burden to break. Rocks from two burdens fell on one side to form Spip Chai Mountain, one burden on Nhan Mountain.
That is believed to be the origin of the tower's appearance. As for the name "Nhan tower", it is explained by the people here that because there are many terns flying here to live and nest, the tower is also named after this bird.
The Nhan Tower is about 25m high with a square base, the tower body is built large at the base and gradually shrinks towards the top. At the top of the tower is a stone statue of Linga – the spiritual symbol of the Champa people. In each Cham temple and stupa building, there are Linga and Yoni symbolizing erotic beliefs, praying for all things to flourish.
Tourists come to the Nhan Tower not only to admire the beauty of this mysterious tower but also to be curious about the materials that the ancient Cham people used to build the tower. The Nhan Tower is built entirely of baked bricks arranged tightly together but very solid. According to research, this type of brick is about 1.3 times lighter in mass than an ordinary brick. Even the strength of compression, impact resistance is much better than ordinary bricks.
Learning about the glue used to bind these tiles together firmly and without revealing any lake lines, it is known that Cham people also use completely from natural materials. When there was no cement in the past, the people of Champa knew how to use adhesives from otter oil trees in construction. However, mixing materials to get a durable glue that can "support" such a large tower, researchers still have to put their hands down.
It is further known that in order for the bricks to stick together so firmly not only due to the above-mentioned glue mixture, but also thanks to the skillful hands of the builders. The bricks are used a short-grinding technique, meaning that after applying the glue, they grind the bricks together until the surface is completely tight without revealing a single crevice.
Going deep inside the tower, visitors may be surprised to see that inside there are no statues or altars, only a small am for incense smoke for the Summit of Lord Thiet A Na Dien Ngoc Phi built in the Hau Le period. Around the wall, there are dragon patterns delicately carved on granite placed at 4 corners of the tower. Do not look from the inside to the top of the tower only to see a deep space soaring full of mystery.
Along with the Da Rang River, this place has become a scenic cluster attracting a large number of tourists. Every year, every Tet holiday, there are many fun and artistic activities held on the mountain of Nhan tower. Therefore, the advice for those who intend to visit this relic is to come on the full moon of January Lunar calendar. At that time, there was a night of Yuan Xiao's poetry that attracted a large number of famous writers and artists from near and far to deliver Save art.
