There was nothing wrong with her statement.  You need to have 20/20 or be correctable to 20/20.  That's what "with or without" means.  As far as military, that changes based on their needs.  At one time if you went to the Air Force Academy, glasses were fine.  After the first Gulf War they were losing pilots (Viet Nam era retirees) so they relaxed the vision requirements.  If you're interested, find a current source of information.
