I think that of all science fiction vessels, the Cygnus feels like it had the most mass and presence.. It just seems far larger than the Death Star or the USS Enterprise or anything else . It just seems enormous somehow.

I think Reinhardt crested Maximilian in order to oversee his work, such to the point where no human compassion could interfere. Reinhardt knew that even he was capable of letting his emotions get in the way. He needed a creation of pure evil to see everything through.

I was very disappointed in this movie. There was a lot of good in it, but it was sloppy; for example, the wires moving the robots around were so clearly visible that they should have just used ropes! If George Lucas could successfully hide his control wires, then Disney should have too. The cast was strong and the music was superb. "The Black Hole" is a watchable movie, but it should have been better.

I would like to bet that the writers got inspiration from 20,000 Leagues under the Sea people bought a mysterious ship when they confronted by the captain they are forced to stay on board The captain is crazy and does bad things for the sake of science it’s just a 20,000 Leagues under the Sea rip-off

Because it the black hole itself was shot in a huge tank of plexiglass and paint colors to create the vortex in the center with very bright lights to intensify the colors of gas and matter glowing bright hot as it swirls into the black hole.

Nobody knows this but the black hole in the movie towards the end of the film shows it swirling in bright red orange and brown and black colors.

The parts of the Cygnus exploding were some of the best-looking space explosions for a very long time. It's a shame Disney didn't pay as much attention to the SCRIPT WRITING as to the special effects.

Alright lads. I’ve got a great idea. How about we fly this right big spaceship that has as much structural integrity as a sheet of tinfoil into a black hole. Who’s with me?

Saw it in theaters when I was ten. Hell was a real place to me back then, and I found the ending terrifying. Thanks for the upload, of all the flaws of this film, spectacular (if fantastic) production design is one of its stronger suits.

Keep in mind this movie had concepts not only like black holes, but the white hole at the end from which they emerge. This was at a time when guys like Stephen Hawking were still debating if black holes were real or not.

Time flies. I was in 6th grade when this movie released. We still have the novel too. I read there was a remake/reboot in the works, but it seems that it has never finished & that the Interstellar movie kinda helped keep that script "adrift" into that black hole called script development hell. But I hope there will be a remake in the future, as long as it's all done properly, of course.

I love the old school special effects, but the science was just so, so bad. Even the Cygnus turning into the Black Hole to enter it, would in fact cause it to miss entering it, though it would likely be torn apart by tidal forces. Even in the 70's they knew what a retrofire burn was, for getting out of a orbit.

I forget what happened exactly, was there too much damage to the Cygnus from the crash and the meteor swarm? Or did Dr. Reinhardt simply underestimate the black holes power and it overloaded his anti-gravity generator causing it to fail?

What amazed me about this film was the level of detail that went into it. If you look closely at the control panels for instance you can see that they're not just static, many of them have moving instrumentation and independent lights that flash and blink on their own, unlike in many movies what they all flash together. It shows that the set designers spent a lot of time ensuring things were authentic looking as possible. Given that this was just a kids movie it's really impressive that they went to such lengths!!
