Pretty sure the footage was produced to promote whatever propaganda necessary to socially engineer everybody’s minds to a specific direction of thought. If you want to see real footage of the war, there are legitimate places for doing that. It’s not on any news station.

Roman has been desensitized to the horrific trauma of war. He's no doubt lost friends which can be an incredible motivator to fight. You want to avenge your brothers in arms that are killed. On the battlefield he's learned how to compartmentalize any fear of death because it's the human brain's way of coping in a constantly deadly environment. It's common for warfighters to find a strange beauty in war and combat. Roman has become tolerant to the adrenalin of warfighting. This is not a good thing, it's necessary to survive on the battlefield. When this war ends and Roman survives, he'll likely have severe PTSD and need help to transition back into "civilian" life.
