Better buy a laptop with 3080ti or a one with 4070??? Dlss3 or 16gb ram is more future proof?

Nvidia has been mislabeling these mobile graphics cards for years and intentionally, claiming the number just represents an "experience" not the true power of the card.

That is bullshit and blatent false advertisement. The "experience" is in the power of the card.

After probably 15 or 20 years of doing this people need to start calling them out. You should know exactly what kind of power you're getting from the box instead of trying to piece together information from different websites. If the card really runs like a 3070 desktop card then it needs a proper name like 3070L to show its power is on par with a 3070 desktop but its a laptop card.

The only good thing to come out of this version of the 3080 is that it made all of the original laptop 3080 models much cheaper, including the 165w versions, which have performance on par with a desktop 3070.

The 12UHS-252 is perfect for those who have not bought a new laptop in the last ten years; it's relatively future-proof for at least five of those ten years of possible service life, given proper care. Back in 2002, I paid $4000 for a DELL E1705 with 16GB of RAM, which back then was literally unheard of at a time when most laptops had 2GB. So think scale, time and ROI. That older lappy still works, and is 100% working.

The Chinese proverb says, "You get what you pay for." Now, someone who bought the 10th or 11th gen machine, it's not worth the upgrade.

I'm glad I waited, because that 12th gen means more cores, and a better GPU, and it's operating at 175W!

I went for the higher priced gpu, because it came with ddr5, and thunderbolt 4. Better future proofed.

Awesome video; I'm always a big fan of your content! Any chance we'll see a review of the newly updated Eluktronics Max 15 & 17 (Or comparable brand/model)? They seem like highly underrated laptops for their size and performance, and it would be awesome to see some in-depth reviews and comparisons with these. Cheers!

3080 ti = 3070

3070 = 3050 ti

This gen laptop gpu are utter scam whilst costing insanely much

I would hate to have a job where I had to do real work on a laptop. There is no comparison to a desktop when you're doing real work. I even hate playing games on them with that hot thing sitting in my lap. These companies don't really make laptops, they invite Chinese manufacturers to submit different motherboard designs in both AMD and Intel as building blocks to design a personalized case around for their next offering.

I might consider the performance downgrade on some games can be blamed on Intel Alder Lake. It only has 8 PCIe 4.0 lanes compared to 16 lanes in Tiger Lake.

Great CPU with a limited GPU performance. Though it is still commendable that the 3080 ti laptop version has the same performance of a 3070 desktop version.

I believe those 5%-10% gains were primarily from using 12th gen CPU.

I believe those gains wouldn't exist in a laptop with 11th gen/Ryzen 5000 and RTX 3080Ti.

man im sad where laptop gpus have gotten to 10th gen was such a good place your laptop 1060 was near 10%+- to a desktop we are back to the point they should add the M back to the end of laptop gpus like was previously used before

You'll always get shafted regarding price/performance at enthusiast level products. Price conscious buyers shouldn't look beyond the 3080 both on desktop and mobile, well if this was a normal market atleast.

I was going to say I'm waiting for rtx4*** buuut I'm not ... At what looks like permanent price inflation in the GPU market I'm out ...after 30+ years of buying high end pc components I just can't defend or justify the prices any more... The pc master race is dead to me now...when you can buy a bloody good second hand car for less than a high end GPU you know PC's are nuked... Just buy a console..if you can.

The biggest problem with Nvidia making a hundred different models is that there is that the margin for error in tests is equal to the gains you get moving up one tier. In some games you very well might not gain anything going up one model. There should be at least a 10% difference between cards.

I miss that single generation (10 series) where nvidia made the desktop and mobile chips the same, just at different power/clock speeds. Why didn't they keep that up? This generation has turned into the worst segmented gpu line up in history.

It's best to purchase an Raider GE76 12 UHS with an 175W RTX 3080 Ti, and Core i9-12900HK, as that particular laptop with those high-end specs will allow you to get the most absolute performance out of both the GPU and CPU. The 175W variant will be much more powerful than the 150W one seen in this video, the framerates in these games will be increased by quite a bit.

Also performance in games will differ between each brand of RTX 3080 Ti equipped laptop. The new 12th gen MSI laptops will differ in performance compared to ones by ASUS, Lenovo and XMG for example, regardless of whether they have the same hardware in them. One will better than the other, and vice versa depending temperatures, thermal headroom, and how each vendor has configured their laptops to run with voltage, wattage and other stuff.

I personally think MSI is usually the brand to go for when you want the most powerful gaming laptop in the world so far. and right now it's the 12th gen Raider GE76 12 UHS with it's 220W of combined CPU/GPU overboost power feature.

Gpu performance gains over the last years has been abysmal. Sure they do a little better then older generations but use way more energy. Nvidia and amd are in no rush to do better as people keep buying them at crazy prices. People are best off keeping something like a gtx 1070 and build a whole new platform around it, cheaper and more performance gains.

This doesn't seem worth it to make new silicon. I'd guess they are doing this because this chip will come to desktop eventually. Maybe like a 3080 LE, or an RTX 3075.

The naming doesn't bother me, maybe only because I know they aren't the same and understand why they do it. I also don't think it needs to change. Long monitor names don't bother so much either, because I'm not shopping for one every couple years, and copy and paste works very well.

What did start bothering me after hearing complaints about long monitor names and this about the mobile GPUs, was meanwhile, Techspot articles would have 1ms as a spec in their articles about upcoming monitors, and only recently did HWU monitor reviews start calling out 1ms response times as false, and rightfully so.

Point being, just be consistent guys. Of anything, complain about the free reign laptop makers have with mobile GPU clock speeds and power consumption. That complaint actually holds water imo.
