Bad Torque Converter vs Bad Transmission Symptoms

I have a bmw e60 535d, I don’t know if it transmission or converter, I have no code, but the symptoms is the rpm go up and down when I drive the car, like on the highway, and it shift gear hard sometimes like kicking really hard when it goes to gear, or it shift the gear late feel like the rpm need to go higher for shift gear
Could it be only the torque converter??

Thank you. I have a 2004 Mitsubshi Montero Sport which has a whirring sound when under load like 4wding and going up a very steep climb or when loaded and driving up a very steep road. I did a trip a couple of years ago where I was going up a very long steep hill and the car wouldn't go any faster than 50 kph (about 30 mph) it was whirring quite loud until we got to the top and the road flattened out then it was fine. This hill was 6km long and went from 350m in alt to 1100m. When I checked the fluid when I got home it was a slight brown not read so I did overheat the trans. I now have a trans cooler with a fan. Car runs fine and shifts fine. Would this have just been an overheating issue or could I have an issue? TIA Jim

It might be a little late to get a response however I have a 2009 Sedona and when I put it in drive I hear a constant rumbling noise I even put it on jack stands and put it in drive and hurt the noise directly in the transmission. There is a carrier bearing that was replaced both wheel bearings are also replaced so it's a noise in the transmission when you put it in drive it engages and the wheels turn but the rumbling noise starts. The interesting thing is when you put it in neutral while it's in gear the rumbling noise continues even when breaking everything rumbling noise. Any thoughts on that might be helpful however I pretty sure it's not the torque converter it's some bearings inside the transmission.

My car does fine in reverse and drive. 1,2 and overdrive but i can’t shift overdrive until I have way over shift point! Bad torque converter maybe? Leavin home got to the bottom of the hill and ease on the gas it felt I was revving to high

I have a 2019 explorer with a broken torque converter. The part is under warranty but on back order. Is driving the vehicle with a broken torque converter damaging the transmission?

Thanks for nice info ,my Audi A6 2.0T one day it was not changing gear like 20 kmph speed other day it changed gears but at 50kmph started shuddering and can't change speed and after some time slipped the gears and chiirrrr kind of sound was heard

I have a 2011 chevy express 4.8L with 6l90 tranny in it and it makes a loud growling noise over 40mph every 30 seconds or so. No slipping no whining or any typical transmission noises. The fluid is black and smells burnt. Question is if I changed half the fluid. Would that make a difference and would a tranny make that kind of noise? I just put new center bearing

Can a bad torque converter stop the car from moving

So my transmission sometimes does slightly kick when it shifts mostly in the lower gears and it feels like the engine is a loss for power and really a loss of power when going up a steep hill. I just bought the truck and it has a brand new tranny in it not a rebuild one but bran new so thats why I’m wondering if they changed to torque converter when they did it. What are you’re thoughts please

My corola 3ZZ - FE. transmission fluid leaking from gear box, I have change the seals and pump as well but oil still.leaking from the bell housing area.

Would a bad torque converter make it slid into tear like gong down a hill it will it will slid thru the gear but if you hold it a foot in the gas it will slip and way hey rpms

42rle. I have a bad shudder in gear at a light or stop sign. Plus it shifts slow when cold and sometimes won't shift up at all warmed up. Overdrive works fine I guess. Any idea?

Hi I have a Ford Escape 2007 that started showing overdrive flashing , did not change any gear after that ( or when is gold going around 500 meters and does not engage the gear anymore ) I replaced the band and after installation, it did not shift at all ( it does go to 1 but does not move I have to go to high RPM and goes in but not moving )so need help what I should do now thanks

i can go outside and crank my 1994 dodge ram 3.9 v6. i can drive around my yard for a while and its good. when it gets all warmed up it starts whinning on me. then it will go into neutral i guess u can say. i let it sit for a while and it will go into gear and reverse. it just happens when its hot. idk what it is but id like to get some information bout it. it doesnt have a code reader so im stuck i gues u can say

Some time ago i noticed when slowing down that it’s not shifting properly between 5th and 4th gear and especially between gear 3 and 2. It feels like it stays in higher gear and when shifting 3rd and 2nd gear there is a sound something similar when you drive manual transmition and car is in 3rd gear but you don’t give it gas pedal, like it’s chocking.

Few days ago, car stopped reacting to gas pedal in driving. I turned the car off and on again I was able to drive in first two gears but as soon as it reaches 3rd RPMs are going, but it seems like there is no gas/acceleration.

I changed the filter and the oil it works now, I am able to drive it but still have problem with downshifting from 3rd to 2nd gear, there is that sound again that reminds on not hitting the clutch while driving manual transmition.

Please help.

This video is perfect!! Took my truck to the shop (6L80E sigh) and they said it was the transmission at the cost of $7k. I argued them down and said it was the TC. Then they said it was the pump. Which one is it??
I took out the transmission myself and noticed the smell of the fluid and the dark color. Hmmm what was it, the TC!!!!

My fwd vehicle started making a rattling noise one day. It seems to drive fine except for the noise. The only DTC code was for the Transmission Range Sensor. Haven't replaced that yet because I'm currently replacing my motor mounts when they arrive. What's the best way to isolate the noise? Engine or transmission, I can't seem to find the spot.

My transmission will shift into first gear when slowing down for a stop and not shift out unless you pull over and cut the truck off for a few minutes. It does need a converter I think after watching this video. Will the converter cause it to shift down to first gear to soon and not shift out unless you put it in park and cut the truck off? mostly it does it over 135 temperature

Cvt transmissions have torque converter? I have a 2021 Altima with all the symptoms explained on this video. No check engine light and no stored codes.

If it drives ok but has Poor acceleration TCC might be going bad

2005 nissan alt v6 codes u1001. P0744, bought from auction was working fine for days the. It clunked at a light and very slow take off, here and there shuttered. Turned off and on to make it run but each time it got shorter and shorter till it revd but wouldnt move in any gear. Got home and let it sit a day and same thing but after about 5 minutes. Finally put some sea foam in it and it worked for about 30minutes then started doingvthe same crap. Im changing the oil. Wiring seems fine , relays and fuses seem fine. Its like it works but then doesnt when it gets warmed up. So i fit. The descriptions but its off and in not one or the other. Any ideas?

I have a 2013 Raptor. Upon startup, when put into gear (D or R) it tries hard to move forward or backward, like lurching, and then it stalls the motor when I don’t let it. I’ve been able to kill and restart the truck and it clears up and drives 100% normal. The other day it was doing that and now I can’t get it to clear up. Any ideas? I can’t find anyone else with this problem. Again, absolutely no issues other than that. Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏼

I have a 05 f250 6.0 diesel.
As soon as I hit the 5th gear the truck starts shaking. I can tell that it’s coming form where the transmission is. It only happens in the 5th gear. If I’m in the 4th gear and reach high speeds nothing happens. But as soon as the transmission goes into 5th gear shaking starts.

Hiii so I wonder if you could shed some light please. 2005 c6 corvette. no fluid being pumped to cooler. Pipe taken off when car is started to know this. so would you say this is the pump. Or a very bad filter. Or possibly the converter as stated here. oil was dark and put new in and still the car won’t move. just selects gears but nothing. Filter hasn’t been changed yet but it’s there.

I have 2013 toyota rav4 xle only one issue when I speed up sometime shaking like Dru Dru Dru then go away I don't know what reason can someone have problem like that or someone who knows what is the problem. I replaced Rotor ,shock ,Break and tire but still have problem.

If someone was to sabotage your car and had access to underneath the car what could they do to make so your torque converter would fail. Bought an 06 bmw 325i with no issues, then I left at frenimies house overnight. Now my car is driving like hell and the torque converter area is leaking. I’m so frustrated with trying to figure out what they did to my car to make it go from a 10 to a 4 that easy all the symptoms point to torque converter
