I am a generaly lucky life, what can I say lady luck loves me.
ОтветитьAll your work stands out, and this among that. Your fan - “lazy, plop, bad luck” and very grateful - thank you !
ОтветитьI had to watch this video for my psyc class and my intention was to just click and find the definition of Egocentric Bias for my notes, but then I was like "woah this is actually pretty interesting" and then I actually took more notes than I thought and was like "I can't believed I not only watched this entire 12 minute video but I felt like it was valuable and entertaining information and I just enjoyed all 12 of those minutes".
I've never felt so inspired by a video that I had to watch, and this was also the most enjoyable piece of required class content I've ever viewed or read (maybe besides when you have to watch a movie for homework and write about it but usually all those movies usually suck but every so often there's some random gem of a movie.)
😊
ОтветитьIs the house you are in built on some Palestinian stolen land? Or is it one of the evacuated houses of Palestine after their residents were forced to evacuate it or got killed due to resistance? Is it in one of the settlements in the west bank?
ОтветитьHence astrology
ОтветитьHard work activates luck. These studies seem to compare people in the same higher levels of success, as in athletes to other athletes or businessmen, but you have to work hard to get there in the first place. Just as Veritasium showed in that "race of luck" animation, everyone was first running, working and trying, only then does luck play a role. The role of hardwork seems a bit undermined here and generally I think he's right, but hard work still really matters, only it can activate the luck factor
ОтветитьYes
ОтветитьI think unsuccessful people underestimate the hard work factor. I think successful people underestimate the luck factor
ОтветитьIn short, the least amount of idiot people that affect u the better your chance. That is 80% of my luck problems. When I get to the counter ,the person is usually an idiot , hence my frustrations. So , more idiots over time means more unlucky stuff for people. Until humans destroy themselves.
Ответить1. Egocentric Bias: People tend to overestimate their own contributions and underestimate others', demonstrated in various scenarios, such as estimating housework or work on multi-author papers.
2. Role of Luck in Success: People often overlook the role of luck in their success. E.g. the birth month influencing the likelihood of becoming a professional hockey player, and the impact of being born in a prosperous country on income.
3. Importance of Luck in Competitive Environments: In highly competitive situations, luck plays a crucial role, as shown in simulations of astronaut selections where luck accounted for 5%, yet almost all selected astronauts were found to be exceptionally lucky.
4. Survivor Bias & Distorted Views of Success: Successful people may have a distorted view of reality due to survivor bias, attributing their success solely to hard work and talent, overlooking the role of luck. This can lead to a less generous attitude towards others and societal inequalities.
5. Paradoxical Advice for Success: While people should believe in their control over destiny and attribute success to talent and hard work, they should also acknowledge the significant role luck plays. Moreover, those who have experienced good fortune should strive to increase the luck of others.
Stay aware of: skill + luck = success
But overlook the luck factor in order to maximize efforts
I’m curious, seeing so many short videos nowadays of “influencers” going up to people where they ask to choose between a surprise bag and a bunch of cash, the bag could be less or more valuable than the plain cash, what’s the best choice in this situations?
ОтветитьI’m starting to think that CGPGrey and Derek are the same person.
ОтветитьFunny how the concept works the same in reverse. The majority of people that deal with failure chalk it up to external factors, not their own personal contributions. It's almost like people are selfish and myopic by nature 🤔
ОтветитьYou literally advise double-think!
ОтветитьWow.I am so impressed of how you met your wife 👏
ОтветитьSurvivorship bias
Ответитьone of those life changers ❤
ОтветитьIt's luck and hard work.
ОтветитьThank you Veritasium - really enjoyed your post.
ОтветитьGod: That is why people believe in god a factor of luck or luck itself in another name
ОтветитьStill a great concept to be reminded of though I've reviewed this before, to make me humble, grateful and generous
ОтветитьTalent is luck also . Like for instance let's say you are born with a higher IQ . It will make it very easy for you to get into Harvard , MIT other universities. But people will just say he was hard working no main reason why he is there is he is smart !!! (High IQ) but what did he do to get it ??? Nothing !!!! He was just lucky to be born with it
ОтветитьWell, it's a bit of a combination of both.
ОтветитьAs a little kid, I have believed I was in control of my little world and in much of the ways I was. Until I had to go live in the real world, I realized I had no grip of anything at all, I just had to give it my best without expecting something grand my way. Humbling experience. 7.5/10
ОтветитьGuess what I wrote, a lot of wealth gold
ОтветитьIt was luck that I found this channel, and I'm glad I did.
Ответить"Success is Hard Luck"
- Sun Tzu
Magnificent - thanks for the video, I am very lucky
Ответитьi certainly think that probably maybe there is a chance that I might love this guy
ОтветитьNice ! but I think it can't be luck it's just God
ОтветитьWork Hard and go 110% in everything and stop making excuses
ОтветитьLove this so much! It's so informative, inspiring and uplifting.
Ответить80% luck 10% hardwork 10% skill
ОтветитьI'm from Iran and I've always dreamed of being a successful fashion designer. ❤And the most difficult part is getting to a country where I have opportunities to do that(cause my home country doesn't)
ОтветитьBut is luck completely uncorrelated to hard work? I think if you work harder, you present more oppurtunities to get lucky.
ОтветитьThank you for this but I believe that successful people, as hard working and rational as they may be, would attribute their”luck” to Almighty God. God is running everything. He is the ultimate grantor of everything. His most prominent attributes are most gracious and most merciful so I understand those who continually give credit to Him for their success to be the most enlightened, inspired and wise human souls in existence.
ОтветитьLooks like Elon Musk
ОтветитьWork hard and sake for God’s willingness, he knows what’s better for us. What you refer to can be paralleled with the beliefs of Islam. What you indicate as “Luck” is for Muslims “God’s willingness”. And Islam says that one has to be hard working, and recognise that God decides to gift him something, to privilege him to other human beings by giving him something, or maybe not. The constant is to keep being a hard worker. I don’t know if it is also the case in other religions too. Is it? Thanks
ОтветитьGreetings going out to Elon Musk and Donald Trump.
ОтветитьThat reminded me of my time as a team lead on my last job. I'm 100% the guy that says "I'm doing everything here" while it would not have been possible for me to do less work then I did xD
But and now comes the twist: I was the only one that was actually capable of doing all of the work g
I had 3 minions with pretty specialized scopes of Work, Minion A could do 100% of his work and roughly 30% of B and C, same for B, he could to 100% B but only roughly 30% of A and C etc while I was the only one with the knowledge and experience to do 100% of the work of A, B and C while none of those 3 could do my specific work
Therefor I was usually only having a 50% work load and 50% downtime in which I would be waiting for problems to pop up I could take care off and therefor keep those problems from impeding the work of my 3 minions or taking over their part when they were sick of on vacation but this naturally lead to the fact that I, as a team lead, was doing outright NOTHING when all 3 were up for work and no problems popped up xD
Late but read “Outliers” by Malcolm Gladwell for a whole book on this topic
ОтветитьEverything is predestined, we don't know the future. So, we need to work hard, and rely on Allah. And Allah is the Giver of success.
ОтветитьAll success is very increasible with luck
