I'm afraid of silence. Not like everyone else. After 3 seconds of turning my ventilator off i get the feeling of beeing watched from every corner in my room. The feeling of being in a ball made out of eyeballs staring at me. I begin to hear voices in my head and see/hear things that aren't even there. It can get so worse that i eventually crawl in a corner and cry because i'm so afraid. Thats why my ventilator is always on. It's not off for one moment. Not even when i go to school. Because i can't handle walking into a silent room. I need that ventilator day and night even in winter or else i get crazy. The sound calms me and makes me focus on that. Eventually i fall asleep by it. Very relaxing and then i'm not scared. Very hard in school tho. I told my teachers so i can listen to some music or relaxing sounds like rain in class. Ey you could also use it if you want to listen to music in class, just say ur afraid of silence haha! 😂 but my fear its real and i don't know how i can control it.

At work I had to go into an anechoic chamber a couple of times. I was only ever in there a few minutes at a time, but it always felt like my ears were plugged from pressure (like in an airplane) It was very uncomfortable.

The problem of an 45 mins or an hour is not necessarily the silence. It's also the lack of activity. Even when sitting down on a coach or train for long periods of time, a person has a phone or newspaper to engage on reading or the windows to enjoy the view. Sitting on a chair in a closed room without much activity (even silent activity) can encourage the brain to provide an alternative (either that or it will send you to sleep)
