Shit It reminds me of Xbox 360

The amount of games, acessablity to option and settings, the modality. I would love to get one of these things

I've had it for nearly a year now too, and while the "whoa" factor has more or less worn off (as it does over time with new hardware), the deck itself hasn't lost a step yet to me. The posibilities are so vast in what you can do with this monster, and the portability has made it so that I don't have to bring my laptop when I go for a visit somewhere for an extended period of time. I know alternatives exist nowadays, but I don't need to upgrade, because the steam deck is perfect for me, and relatively affordable too.

When it comes to bugs and issues, they pop up every so often, I must admit. That said, Valve seem like they're great at acknowleging and patching most of them pretty fast, as they appear.

I ordered one a couple hours ago, so I’m hopeful it still holds up even being 7 months after this video was initially released. Looking forward to putting a dent in some of the older and backlogged games in my Steam library, plus emulation.

Just ordered one the other day. Still not sure what games I want to play on it yet, but I think anything story driven will be a good time. I heard emulation is good, but knowing what is the best option for emulators is a mystery.

I completed Cyberpunk 2077 on my deck finished Red dead 2 on my steam deck! I am currently playing starfield on both my main rig and steam deck (Honestly frames aren’t that bad in starfield with some tweaks) I have to say I love this thing also nearly finished LIS 1 it’s helping me clear backlog & it’s nice to chill in bed with & take on the train with or even to my Boyfriends if he wants to play Fifa or football manager with his friends I can just hop on my deck even playing games with him on his PC & me on Deck at his is a game changer honestly love this piece of hardware can’t sing it’s praises enough (The Rog Ally looks good but can’t beat the steam deck on price especially with the referb models it’s cheaper than a switch oled and 100X more powerful & better bang for your buck even if you have to buy the dock separately)

I got this idea of swapping my ps5 to a steam deck... but, I still haven't decided yet. My reason is commute as well, when I get back home or even in my days off, I often find myself asleep or feel too sleepy to play games.

Kids these days don't know how good they've got it, complaining about the battery life. I remember my Sega Game Gear took six AA batteries and you'd be lucky if you got an hour of gameplay out of it. It cost an arm and a leg to play!

I love my Steam Deck, but I mostly play emulated games on it. I get good battery life. I got the 64GB version, and opened it up and put in a 512GB SSD. Prices have come down on 1TB 2230 SSDs, but I'm not sure I want to open up my Deck and reinstall SteamOS again.

So few companies care this much about the products they release and listening to their customers. Valve is still one of the greats and, besides Larian, is the only gaming company I trust.

I absolutely love my Steam Deck. I don't have much time to play games at my PC anymore so having the chance to play them on this has been great. I had been limited to pretty much just the Switch for a while so there were a ton of games I was missing out on. In a few years, I'll likely go with the Steam Deck's successor but I'm also interested in the other handheld PC devices (which I was not interested in at all before). Windows considering making a version of Windows specifically for those devices is really exciting and I'd love a higher power device that still has the nice UI like the Steam Deck. Interested to see where the industry goes in the next couple of years!

Other than the abysmal battery life on more demanding games, this is the gaming device i've always wanted.
But my advice to anyone considering a purchase soon, please don't buy the standard version with 64GB storage.
Even with an SD card, the default storage is still used for updates and cache files and fills up quickly. Games don't open if it gets full.
For perspective, one game on your external drive is 1-3GB of cache.

I always loved the convenience of laptops and how they allow me to multitask, but the touchpads are getting crappier and crappier (it used to be so good... macbooks have an edge on this department...) Having touchpads on the left and right seems like an awesome combination for controls... Is there a way that I could use the Steam Deck merely as a controller for my laptop screen?

I know this is 6 months old video, but I'll still throw in my two cents.
I got quite a beasty PC that can run most of modern games on high settings so I bought Steam Deck basically for slower days at work (I sometimes get few hours of waiting). I've been using it a lot more than just that. I got into habit of playing some smaller and slower games with my coffee in the morning, like Slay the Spire. I took it when I went on holiday - absolutely great on the plane.
To say something about the battery life - I like how much control you have about all sorts of aspects about the console. You can change brightness, you can change refresh rate of the display, you can change settings in majority of games.. I personally experimented with all sorts of settings but I settled at 40Hz refresh rate and I couldn't be happier. On such a "small" display 40fps is more than enough for everything to seem very smooth and you're saving significant amount of battery. If you go and play modern, demanding games the battery obviously won't last long (with my settings usually max 2 hours) but come on.. What do you expect? You're literally playing Witcher 3 / Cyberpunk / Days Gone / any other new game on your handheld. Be reasonable. For smaller indie games the battery life is way way better - I'd say easily 6 hours with something like Slay the Spire.
With all that said - I really like Steam Deck and I think it was a great move.

The Steam Deck has done to Laptops what the original PlayStation did to the PC. It did away with the keyboard & mouse, made it smaller & faster & dedicated it just to Gaming. It really is the start of a Handheld Gaming Revolution. After all, do we really need 1000W Graphics Cards to Game? Thank you Valve for trusting the Spec. that was always meant to be for the Sony PlayStation Vita 2.

I never understand peoples want/need to outlay soo much on a handheld, when handhelds were around 100 you can justify buying them for that hour before bed chill session, especially when there were alot of games exclusive to handhelds. Now you're essentially paying console price for a handheld just to play PC games when your not at your PC? Just makes soo little sense to me, I'd rather just buy a console for any exclusives or put that money into a new PC graphics card and stay on the PC rather than sitting somewhere else on a smaller screen for an hour here and there.

Got one recently, gotta admit I was disappointed at how poorly Elden Ring ran on it. Frame drops to 20 fps on the lake didn't make for a great experience. I was expecting verified games to maintain 30 at the very least.
