This fight was fun BUT was rough to do in party finder 💀💀

the easy version of the fight lets you learn some of the mechanics (standing donut or crouching Line) without instant death and it's required before playing the harder version

I'm quite grateful to FFXIV, ever since ARR, for giving me consistent enemies, strategies, spells and fights that I can mentally-channel into later fights so that I learn.

Like 'Ahk Morn', anywhere, is a multi-stack channel. Or Diamond Dust, anywhere, is an intense-damage Ice move. And my word, the model stances and movements (like Titania) help train you to watch for subtle hints that are no longer obvious in EX and above ❤❤

the real hard part is find other 7 players with brains to clear this, the good players already cleared on day 1 or 2, so if you arent a famous streamer you have do die like 100 times by ppl mistakes.

You have very, very little time on second circle baits there. If you react just little late to run out, you'll get smacked. PLD screwed up, but they got lucky to recover from it.

There are two things worth noting. First these markers aren't standard for how this fight is now, this was an early clear so there are early markers and early starts that make simple mechanics a bit harder to parse out. The other thing is that a lot of these mechanics do enough to hurt, but not enough to kill, or even if they do kill, you can be raised and still clear. You can do a lot of learning on the fly while messing up and still see pretty deep into the fight. Of course too many mistakes and it's a wipe and learn, but that's just how it goes when you're exploring a fight with your face.

The best extreme of Endwalker in my opinion.

The stance part at the beginning is NOT a wipe and learn. First, missing her stance and getting hit once isn't a wipe. Second, she gives the same tell in Normal - you can learn her stances there.

This might be the best ex trial in the game. Obviously it's subjective but many people speak very positivly about Barbi

as a pretty long term casual ffxiv player who hasn't ever really done high end content as its intended (on release or min ilvl old stuff like you're doing, as i understand it?) i'm finding myself feeling the need to step up my game.

Barbie is essentially you don't know this mechanic, brute force it

Also, if a tank messes up and 2 or more people die, the tank does not get off scot free, the tank messed up, the tank is at fault
Same with a healer, or a DPS
It's not generally a specific roles fault
When the pld covered B, he/she took the two corner DPS and healers safe spot, and generally in ex's, if an oopsies happens, you save a safe spot for a healer, but due to some mechanics timing, finding you your safe spot is dangerous, getting to a new safe spot is either not possible or you end up killing someone else

What I enjoy about this fight is how much of it is just Barb just going all out on attacks. She barely ever stops and I was surprised to see them go that route with her fight.

I hope you try analyzing some Savage content next. P9S, P5S and E9S work as a good intro to what Savage offers. Most any fourth trial is good for what the top end of Savage looks like. P4S, P8S, and P12S are the most recent ones.

I will say though, it's downright CRIMINAL to have english voices on this particular fight. I won't force anyone to play game in jp, but this fight, this fight alone, between music and her powerhouse, excited laughter is just a GIANT Jojo energy.

I remember running the normal version of this for MSQ and thinking half-way through "Oh my God.. This is going to be an INSANE Extreme." ... And I was not wrong. It was also my introduction to healing in 14 as a White Mage (LOL... x_x). Very, very fun fight. TONS of movement and Very fast-paced. Very unforgiving if Everyone is not on their toes because of all the pairings/AOE positioning/stacking.

I honestly feel like this Extreme is more difficult than some Savages...

you know what would be great, if after your "can I figure it out myself" video you watch an actual guide and see if you can comprehend that, would probably surprise you how much more there is to it lol
Also Trials can only go Extreme as their hardest version, Savage = for raids, they go Savage as their hardest version. Extreme is often harder than Savage but it depends on the tier, but they are not a higher/lower version of eachother as trials cannot be savage but are called extreme, as raids cannot go extreme and go savage

You don't have to wipe and learn with the stance based mechanic. On normal mode(required clear to unlock Extreme) there's also a marker around her with arrows indicating what she's going to do, she'll do those same 2 stances with those markers, so basically they're taking away the training wheels but it's basically the same mechanic. A lot of mechanics in FF you can figure out by looking at previous mechanics and stuff from normal modes of fights. Occasionally there's new stuff completely off the wall, but not usually.

The 'spread' for mechanics is mote commonly known as a 'protean spread' from living liquid in the alexander raid series.

On jp/oce/eu people have preassigned spread positions that lead into lught parties and partner stacks.

D3 MT D4
H1 H2
D1 OT D2

D1 and D2 are generally melee jobs, so they are positioned right on the edge of the bosses rear and flank for hitting positionals with mimimum effort.

MT moves to H1 and OT moves to H2 and you have light parties.
Mt d1 h1 d3
Ot d2 h2 d4

Its a very simple system but na players still do some dumb marker dance for 5 minutes at the start of every fight 😂

But I guess along the way there will be savage first. My recommendations for great savage fights would be o8s (God Kefka), o12s (Final Omega), e8s (Hraesvelgr Shiva) or p8s (Hephaistos)

Your mechanic reading has improved a lot thanks to all that Coils practice. You understood all the mechanics, but there are nuances to the positioning and how to react to things that aren't easy to pick up by just watching a video. A good group with communication can clear an EX blind in less than 4 hours, or around 2 hours if they watch a guide. If it's a clear-for-one group where the one person has studied, it can be done in an hour or less if the "one" learns quickly.

This may help to explain standard clock spread, supports are in cardinal directions and DPS are in intercardinal directions:

Main tank (MT) - north
Off tank (OT) - south
Healer 1 (H1) - west
Healer 2 (H2) - east
Ranged (R1 & R2) - northwest and northeast
Melee (M1 & M2) - southwest and southeast (melee positions are behind the boss to provide access to positionals where possible)

For light parties you have MT+H1+M1+R1 to make one party and OT and twos to make the other party. If you have three ranged DPS one of them just gets melee position. For some casters RDM and BLM it can be beneficial to be in melee position as it provides uptimes for RDM melee combo and usually includes less movement than ranged positions that are usually forced to move out.

There are these common quirks that are based on party "position" that are seemingly unrelated but most PFs follow. H1 is usually pure (regen) healer while H2 is shield. H1 rezes and esunas (cleanses) from the top of party list, while H2 does that from bottom. When OT takes aggro they usually still keep OT clock position, so they wait for start of the cast facing boss north, then run to south position, because boss will not turn while casting and executing the mechanic. If there are pair splits after clock position mechanic some groups may switch ranged and melee (south and north) that way both tanks and melee are paired together and can have uptime though they loose positionals. Its common to call your position when joining PF (at least in EU), you just type "R2" into a party chat and everyone knows what you mean (NA does marker dance in the instance but its basically the same thing), but if there is already player that called that position before you, you need to adjust, convince them to adjust or leave.

Nice feature for someone watching a game-client-pov kind of video, u can see the buttons being pressed - and then icon buffs on “ur character”and “ur debuffs on enemy” with Green Numbers (indicating urs). I guess one will be more familiar with class-related buttons eg Feint as u do MeleeDps; while the PLD here got more tools to help the party - Reprisal (purple with pink(?) flame in the middle, The ‘Paladin Wings’ 😊 its a fun experience seeing what and how people press their buttons tho

You got it the devs always put a tell for what’s coming next like the boss stance animations etc…

It can also be what the boss says or anything really even the background can be a tell.

A lot of the time, when it comes to tank busters, a tank can just invuln through it.

Depending on the fight there may be a debuff placed on the tank that you need to swap.

In longer fights mitigation planning for tank busters is fairly common, often using your invulns in a certain way to have them for later in the fight.

Has Psybear reacted to FFXIV raiding terms for mechanics? I think that would give him a better understanding of FF raid mechanics when he does these fight reactions. Knowing common terms like clocks, light party stacks, enumerations etc. would help imo

Something to keep in mind and it's very much a thing for most of the later bosses, the very first mechanic they do is just raid-wide unavoidable AoE damage, you'll notice that more when you actually play these encounters for yourself but yeah
