Life is a reflection of itself
Life is a reflection of itself - 28.10.2022 03:23

The part of yourself that you recognise as being you, is an unchanging thread, connecting all of your experiences throughout your entire existence.

We create our thoughts, so we are not what we think we are. One’s understanding of oneself needs to be of one’s whole being and encompass the spirit of one’s existence, and the essence of life within.

The sword in the stone is a good example of this. Wise old man, potential, at the end he becomes a king

I can’t wait til my kids become adults. It’s only then that I’ll know if I got it right or not. It’s like having an unsolved equation for 20 years but not having your answer checked for another 10-15 years.

Interesting, so what you are (The Self) is both the present you that has been tempered by the experiences of your past and the future possible you that your present capabilities could create.

It seems that the idea isn't telling you to be your future potential someday. It's instead saying that since what you are today and what you could be tomorrow are connected, becoming more experienced now expands the limits of your potential to be more later down the line.

Watching this version of Peterson compared to, e.g. the British GQ interview is a remarkable alchemy of a being who has found one's Jungian self and is manifesting its power.

My ideas of the self is more of a "core self". I think it's obvious to a lot of people that a lot of the parts of your brain don't feel like part of the "core self", they feel like a machine that helps you. Your limbs aren't you, they just help you locomote. Your eyes aren't you, they just help you see. And parts of your brain aren't you, they just help you. Take your memories for example. Your memories don't necessarily feel like part of your "core self", more often than not if feels more like you ask to remember something, and your brain might provide that.
Another "segment" is, anyone that has tried to quit smoking or exercise more or anything of the kind is probably keenly aware of how many excuses your brain can make, which it then uses to try and defy the "core self" with. Take exercising for an example. Your brain is prone to tell you things like "I'm too tired" (despite having felt energetic 2 seconds ago), "I could do this if I just had my music with me" or "I tried this today already and failed. Today is a failure there isn't any point in trying again" despite having plenty of time in the day.
A weird thing happens when you defy these parts of your mind. You realize that it wasn't the "core self" saying them. It was your brain's own "software" or "excuse software" trying to maintain an equilibrium with other parts of the brain, most commonly the ego. If you buy in to the excuses you receive, then the ego has an excuse other than "I was being weak" to not do things that take effort.
The best part is that when you realize all of this, and you realize that you need to discipline your mind first, the path becomes so clear that you can leap to doing great things in no time at all.

Why is your channel called “bite-sized philosophy” yet you ONLY post Jordan Peterson? You might as well rename your channel to “Jordan Peterson Clips”
