I love that you call it Dark Mirror because honestly it's more fitting. 😅 I will put the New One on hold now! ❤

I have an author recommendation for you! Jim Thompson. He was prolific, so there are plenty of books to choose from! They are set in the 40s/50s. Those I've read weren't about PIs, but they have that feel because there is always some kind of caper happening and/or mystery to solve, and the narrators are unreliable, and dark and messed up things are happening! Like... some really messed up things that you and I both love in a book, if you know what I mean 😉 lol. There is a healthy dose of mysongy involved, but in this context I'm certain you will enjoy it as much as I did!

It's such a difficult sub-genre to get right! I think I have 2-3 books on my tbr📚 which are space horror. And I have seen maybe 3-4 good movies. The scourge between stars is going straight to my tbr📚 So is death of a dancing queen🕵‍♂️🕵‍♂️🚀🤖🙂

So glad you're enjoying Bret Eaton Ellis! If you're interested in reading The Shards, you might want to start with Less Than Zero. They're not technically sequels but there is some links and overall tone is similar. Imperial Bedrooms is the actual sequel to Less Than Zero and well worth a read. Love the channel and your recommendations!!

I'm so glad you finally read Lunar Park. They had a website back when I read it in 2005. It's brilliant! Once I understood the heartbreak of Bret Easton Ellis, I really appreciated his stuff. Imperial Bedrooms, which is a sequel to Less than Zero, is not as good as Lunar Park but it's still pretty good. It shows that he has looked back at his books and thought more of them. It's always interesting to see authors as they mature and reconsider their previous stances on subjects. I believe Donna Tartt and Bret Easton Ellis attended the same school. Or maybe it was Jay McInerney, I can't remember.

space horror is one of my favorite genres, too! dead silence started out sooo good, and yet i still feel conflicted about that ending/the big reveal. i'm so looking forward to picking up the scourge between the stars ⭐ people keep recommending ghost line (by andrew neil gray) to me as well, but i haven't read it yet. we def need more solid books in this genre!

Just found your channel and am loving it so far! Just curious since it seems like sci fi horror is your bread and butter, have you ever read the "Remembrance of Earth's Past" trilogy by Cixin Liu? It's one of the best Sci Fi series I've ever read, it about humanity being thrown into an existential crisis when they find out an alien race is on its way to earth to take it over since their home world is no longer suitable. Humanity finds out due to the distance of space it will take 400 years for them to reach earth and to make it worse the aliens were able to stifle humanity's technological advancement and humans basically can't do anything but wait and since people realize they can't win society basically crumbles during those 400 years.
I'm obviously just throwing out a very broad stroke but I think you would love it if you haven't read it yet, it's a very slow burn and you have to stick with it but it's very well worth the read!
Fantastic video! 😊
