StarCraft was never meant to be played the way that Koreans played. It was never even meant to be played in Korea at all.

Minor Correction(s):
- At 7:32, I misread my script: 1997 should be 1995 - the year StarCraft began development.

- Music List: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1LmgJZhdnz-xU4C_IR1X6GSon32kWGdOROstxleoaiig/edit?usp=sharing
- Postmortem: (when the series is fully released)

For as long as I have followed esports, I have heard stories of StarCraft. StarCraft: Brood War was supposedly the game that started it all, it was the game that had endured decades of competition, and - as I was told by many - Brood War was the home of the greatest gamer of all-time: FlaSh.

So, after a decade of leaving StarCraft at the periphery of my interests, I decided that is was finally time for me to really familiarize myself with the game's history. Many hours of research later, I have barely scraped the surface. But I have become convinced: StarCraft: Brood War is an essential part of the esports legacy; and it is one of the greatest games of all-time.

This documentary series is my attempt to share what I learned.
---------------

Hi bottom-readers! Long-time viewers know that this series has been in-progress for a while, now. I researched, wrote, and recorded the entire script back in March, and have had things on the back burner since. But it's finally time for me to finish things up, and it's finally time for you to learn about StarCraft!

What foresight to start the Korean Esports Association. I watched BoxeR growing up. Now, I only really follow League of Legends' professional scene.
It makes sense why Korean teams have been so dominant in RTS games, they were way ahead of the curve and established infrastructure to grow young talent at a very early time.

Sad to see that in Korea, at the very beggining of e-sports they considered it as an actual profession, while in my country, Brazil, 20 years latter this is still a debate.

I was much better than XDsGrrr back in the day, Koreans feared me, lolololol. I thought my invite to Korea was spam mail so I stayed in university. Not many know the true #1 world didn't even compete.

Back in 2000 when i was first introduced to starcraft brood war, i was blown away with it's gameplay. I find myself playing all day with friends during weekends and sometimes during weekdays after school. Looking back now it was one of the fun days during my highschool days.

Yeah, this 3 part thing is pretty stupid move man. You should have waited until you finished the whole documentary and released it as one long video. It would have garnered more views and more acclaim. What you did here was a really bad move for your views and monetization.

This video tells me precisely nothing about why or how Starcraft as a game was not meant to be played how Koreans played it.
I thought this was going to be about how broken Starcraft is fundamentally as an RTS game, or how it basically ruined RTS games for generations because every other company tried to emulate Blizzards success instead of making RTS games

im sorry but if you ask any korean that grew up during that time who it was that shaped the esport, not one would say flash. almost everyone would say boxer or yellow or even reach. that was a big miss. the impact of flash was definitely huge, but by the time flash was rising through the ranks, starcraft was already there to stay in korea.

I could be misremembering the amount but Logitech sponsored a Command and Conquer tournament for $100,000 in the 90s, early days, during Dialup. (I just found a book the history of competitive gaming, it said TEN gave away 250,000 over 4 seasons in 1997).

It took me a few seconds to realize this wasn't about piracy. It just meant 5% of Koreans owned Starcraft (legally).
