I want a google watch 2 until I realize its $400 and it'd simply be a watch to tell time on and very little else really. I have a feeling a lot of smart watches end up like that.

Should have known this would have just been another Google, Samsung or Apple video. Same phones, more gimmicks. I want a phone, not an expensive portal to Google services or Samsung products. Nor the Apple cage.

Google also discontinued Google Nest Secure for no reason. I spend 700 USD on sensors and what not. This shouldve lasted me at least 10 to 15 years. Not 3 years. I will never buy a physical Google product again or a cloud product in general. Such a shame that this company is too large to fail. One day.

It is legally binding though. If they sell it having committed to seven years of software support, a class action can be filed to recover from that broken promise.

i hope creators make fun of other brand's features which were already in others like linus is doing to Google. who said he is biased he is "not".
yeah Apple's product support is so great that you choose to use it for comparsion.
and google is already giving a lot of freebies so don't expect more

Well if these updates are going to be in the same spirit as their Chrome privacy sandbox update, just blatantly lying to the users in order to farm even more data on them, then I'm probably fine, thanks.

I'd go with extreme caution towards the Pixel. Pixel 7 Pro has had tons of fundamental issues such as screens dying and volume rockers falling off. Google has never acknowledged these manufacturing flaws. I've personally had 2 Pixel 7 Pros die through no fault if my own.

I'd give everything for a phone that won't shatter its screen easily. Doesn't matter if you have updates for 7 years if your screen is in pieces.

If Google turn out to honor the 7 year promise, it could become the only google hardware product I’ll consider buying

First of all phone's not meant to be used for 7 years and I think 5 years of security and 4 major versions is good enough.
and I will not buying promise especially from Google.
... and most of features will be coming to other phones via apps like Google photos, which makes Pixel8 series not very attractive...

The pixel uk prices are close to 15/15 pro, and I phone’s have five years minimum of updates and stores for quick battery replacement, nothing is Guaranteed with Google just promises like Microsoft does, pixel 6/7 available for 500 GBP was worth trying but not these new prices.

Pixel seems compelling, but their unreliability makes me hesitant to ecosystem hop. I will have to hope some of those features make their way to iPhone in a year or two

I'll NEVER trust Google's word on a piece of hardware they sell or buy a Pixel anything ever again in my life. The entire experience was a fight and they just can't stop spying! I can at least get around a little of the spying on third party OEM devices because they fix some of those problems that Google won't even bother addressing. That's because, from Google's perspective, it's not a problem, it's a hidden feature.

Great points at the end! I loved the simplicity of Google domains, it made my admin panel a One-Stop shop for me. My mom has her domain registered with Google domains...

How much was it costing them to maintain? Super annoying

The part that gets me is that the whole "5 years of updates" thing was a big selling point for the Pixel 7 series when they came out last year. Now they're acting like this is a revolutionary, brand-new deal that they decided to enact for the 8 series. Why are they trying to hush up the fact that they already made this declaration last year? Are the 7s no longer guaranteed five years of updates?

Ever heard of custom roms. If bunch of hobbiests can support a phone for a decade, a company like Google can certainly give support for 7 years.

As someone who not only doesn't care about AI, but actively hates it, all the features I saw from the Android presentation are just, bad.
Like, at least we got more app privacy stuff, I guess.
With things like this, I have no rush of upgrading my phone anytime soon.

The camera bar makes it so the phone does not wobble when you lay it down. having the camera just in a corner makes the phone wobble on a table

In addition to needing to actually follow through on 7 years of support, Google needs to keep offering the same amount of support each generation. The Pixel 9 needs to also get 7+ years, as does 10, 11, etc. When Pixel 8's support ends people should be able to buy a Pixel 15 and be able to expect at least as good of a support program as they had before.
