This man has gone straight to the point of the most important area within the philosophy of Plotinus - such a stunning presentation and thank you 🙏🏽 but I know there will be people who disagree

For so many mysticism means something insane, the term within philosophy for mystical experience is henosis...
Things like John 17:20-26 make it very clear this is precisely what Jesus' mission is about...
Everything short of that and calling yourself Christian is erroneous.

Just a short clip, but right to the point. Where is the full lecture?

A few qualifications for those interested:

"The highest being is called the One" – this isn't accurate. The One is not a being; it is utterly without contingency (its existence relies on nothing else), and therefore beyond particularity (and therefore not "a" being). It is ineffable, and all that there is (i.e. the *One*). And in no way is it pantheism, because the One is contained fully in nothing, even as all is contingent on it; for this, we can perhaps speak of his idea of the World-Soul, but certainly not the One (for more, read Stephen Mackenna's introduction of Plotinus' Enneads). At best, we can call Plotinus' idea of God panentheism (as immanent/present as transcendent/other), which is of course very compatible with Christian tradition (Aquinas, Origen, Augustine, Maximus the Confessor, etc.)...

Also, within Christian tradition has always been the idea of theosis (likeness or union with God), which is of course more than the communion of saints. It is unreserved intimacy with God. Plotinus only seeks to bring this intimacy—this love which erases all boundaries between the lover and the beloved—to the point that visions of particularity become synonymous with universality (again, with the One); there is no longer any distinction. The Greek for this is henosis. If the ego disappears, it can no longer be said that it is us that become divine (unless qualified): indeed, if we become God, we are no more ("we" here meaning the ego which distinguishes ourselves from the Other—the essence of sin, to my mind).

Very cool that R.C. Sproul teaches these things; they should be taught!

Hi,
Where can I find the rest of the lecture? This clip seems to have ended way too early I think.
