But be careful with the latter cause you will be vulnerable to low attacks znf some mid. Sidestep ping znf sidewalking are your allies. Anyway, I'll let you figure it out. Also also whenever you have some time, do go into practice mode. It'll teach you the basics. They built it very nicely this time around.

Quick tip: The Assist button for beginners, especially with story mode, is gonna be VERY helpful for ya. Best of luck, and enjoy the story. Also I would recommend checking out all the cutscenes for Tekken 7's story mode so you can get more context of the story currently. But if you wanna see the beginning of the WW3 he started, then also check out the Cutscenes from Tekken 6's story mode.

If you want some tips, here're somethings you can start with:
- be well acquainted with blocking and dodging
- Training Mode is your friend
- learn moves for each character from the Commands list, helps avoiding mashing L1 stuff
- learn to read your opponents' attacks; see where each fist/ kick lands and block/ dodge accordingly
- take. your. time.
And really, it's all up to you how you want to play! It really doesn't matter when you're enjoying the story!

The story of these kinds of games is... something.

So to explain why jin started a world war, it wasn’t because of his dad (that’s believable tho with this series 😂)


it was because of an ancient evil being named azazel. In tekken 5, jin kept having nightmares that wasn’t explained. Then in tekken 6, it was revealed that the nightmares he was having was actually azazel communicating with him. And azazel tells jin in his nightmares that he is the originator of the devil gene and that when human misery gets super strong all over the world then he will return and destroy the entire world and only someone with the devil gene can stop him. So Jin gets worried because at that point, himself and his dad were the only known devil gene carriers. So if human misery ended up reaching the level high enough to summon azazel after jin and kazuya died, then there would be no one to save humanity. So Jin decided to raise the misery of humans HIMSELF, by starting a world war. So he messed up the present in order to save the future. And it works, azazel gets summoned, Jin defeats him and the future is saved. But of course, Jin had to do a lot of horrible things to get to that point so it’s not really justifiable. Of course Jin’s intentions were good but he sure was doing a lot of bad guy things to make it happen so if he’s willing to do that, I think he’s more of an anti hero than a pure hero.

But besides that, everything else you said was right so I think you’ll be good. 🫱🏾‍🫲🏼

YES LETS GO!! Mama Jessica and the little one’s first playthru and it’s Tekken!! Words cannot describe how much I love this series as a fan since Tekken 3.
Tekken 8 is quite a ride as the story mode is massive improvement from Tekken 7.

Also, have no shame in calling Kazuya and Hwoarang (the hot Korean guy lol) attractive. I’ve been a Jin fangirl for years but some of the other guys have lovely upgrades in this game. 🥵 Hope you have lots of fun with this one. Best recommendation would be to remain on Assist Mode during combat for doing easy combos, especially when you want to experience the story. You switch in between the mode by pressing on the shoulder button (L1).

As long as you’re smashing buttons in an order that leads you to victory, you’re good! Unless you’re planning on hitting up the online ranked modes then it really doesn’t matter. That said, you did really well for a first time FG player.

You were right at the beginning, Lars is Kazuya’s half-brother, so Jin’s uncle. Lee is also his uncle as he was adopted by Heihachi.

Definitely do the tutorial if you haven’t done so already. It explains all the basics like controls, combos, blocks, etc. Don’t be afraid to button mash in Tekken btw. There are so many different moves and combos that you are bound to run into them while randomly mashing.

I know this is only the start of a fighting game on this channel, but I have a feeling you might enjoy Street Fighter 6's World Tour mode. Like Tekken 8, it has its own gameplay style for accessibility, and World Tour is basically an open world RPG at this point.

Jess, whatever you do, don't ask Kazuya for parenting tips.

To answer your question on if kazuya would have turned into what he is now if he had never got thrown off the cliff, id say its hard to decide. on the one hand, you see in Tekken 5 he had a much softer side as a child especially with his grand father, and even now though he is consumed with rage and more i think it took alot outside of the cliff throw as well to turn him into the current monster. That being said, heihachi did kill his mother (granted out of self defense) and at least imo the devil gene did kinda take her over too leading to the initial fight between her and heihachi. So that could trigger some things too.

So that "dodge", which is called side steeping, happens when you double tap and hold up or down. Now this is just me but for fighting games I always use the d-pad for movement to try to avoid the game reading the back input as down or diagonal down on the joystick.
Edit: Btw I've only played Tekken 5 (PS2) and Tekken 7 (PS4), my PC can't handle 8.

The thing with Hwoarang (hot Korean guy) and Jin you might not have known is that they used to be “friendly” rivals back when Jin was actually at least somewhat happy and normal.

Hwoarang and Xiaoyu are like the only playable characters that Jin has a positive history with prior to Tekken 8. That’s probably why Jin got a lot out of their fight, it may have reminded him of when times were good and he actually enjoyed fighting and uhh… living.

Also, dw about not playing optimally or not lol Tekken story modes and most Tekken offline modes are always quite easy even at the hardest difficulties for new and casual players. Especially with the newly added Special Style, basically just spam buttons and you’ll be good haha

NEVER feel bad about playing on easy. I'm a bona fide fighting game veteran, dating all the way back to freaking Karate Champ and Pit-Fighter. I STILL play fighting games on easy.

If you’re looking for a mode that actually teaches you how to play and the basics of the mechanics, you should play arcade quest. It’s a good beginner friendly mode once you get past the silly aesthetics.
But if you’re looking to press buttons and make cool things happen, using special style during story mode is fine(ESPECIALLY at the end of the game. I recommend it that way). Experiment. Learn how your character responds when you press buttons while holding down different directions. Don’t forget to block, backdash, and sidestep.
Tekken is complicated and your rewards are proportional to the work you put in. So don’t get torn up if you don’t know something. Just enjoy yourself 👍👍

the fighting game bug is very contagious. you try one, like it and before you know it youre buying a controller specifically to play them

It's great to see characters with diverse cultural backgrounds but understand each other. There's no official explanation, but I think it creates a cohesive and compelling multi-cultural gaming experience for players.

Awesome playthrough and as a long time Tekken fan you're very astute. Kazuya is a dick because his Dad was a dick. Its all he knows. And how he grew up.

Dont let people crying about you using "Baby's first fighting game" mode dissuade you, its your first fighting game and it wouldnt be fair to expect you to know much. You should keep it on, you'll have a better time.

Fact Jin started the war to catch the attention of a darker entity name Azazel. Which im not 100 percent certain but it could only be brought out by chaos i believe. So he could destroy Azazel himself, in order to pure the world

Tekken's story is nuts but thankfully the story mode itself is not too difficult to get through

I always loved in Tekken the characters speak their native language. I wish more games did that. I remember for Street Fighter 4 I would have stuff like Ken in English and Ryu in Japanese to replicate it 😅

Hello Jess! I see that you're playing Tekken, one of my favorite video games of all time! Great video.

If you don't mind, I'm going to tell you a bit about the story, in case you forgot.

So... Heihachi, is pretty much responsible, for Kazuya and Jin turning out the way they did.

He dropped Kazuya off a cliff, when he was only 5 years old, causing him to activate his Devil Gene.

When Kazuya climbed back, Heihachi raised him in an abusive household, which is why Kazuya turned out the way he did, because Heihachi forced the beliefs of control and hatred into Kazuya's mind, and because his Devil Gene influenced him.

Heihachi also adopted Lee as his son, not out of love, but to make a rival for Kazuya, and abused them both while he raised them.

Heihachi also shot Jin in the head, at the end of Tekken 3, making Jin awaken his Devil Gene as well.

Heihachi betrayed two men, who looked up to him, mainly Jin, since Kazuya was abused 10 years earlier.

Heihachi wronged his own father, Jinpachi as well, as he locked him under a temple, called Honmaru, and Jinpachi died by starving to death. Jinpachi was actually an honorable man, living in peace, practicing martial arts. He's also best friends with Wang Jinrei, and is one of the few people who loved Kazuya, and who Kazuya loved, in turn, besides Kazuya's mother, Kazumi, and Kazuya's former lover, Jun.

Kazuya and Jin, are only "worse" than Heihachi on a surface level, but Heihachi is worse than Kazuya and Jin on a complex level.

Also, I know someone else said it in another comment, but I will explain the "proper" family tree of the Mishimas and Kazamas:

Jinpachi Mishima: Father of Heihachi Mishima, father-in-law of Kazumi Mishima, grandfather of Kazuya Mishima and Lars Alexandersson, adoptive grandfather of Lee Chaolan, and great-grandfather of Jin Kazama.

Heihachi Mishima: Son of Jinpachi Mishima, ex-husband of Kazumi Mishima, father of Kazuya Mishima and Lars Alexandersson, adoptive father of Lee Chaolan, and grandfather of Jin Kazama.
