I hate Arlo subscription but Eufy is owned by a private Chinese company, Anker. Think about privacy before you choose. Maybe other brands like Google?

Arlo is not a good security camera PERIOD...i wish i can return mine but im past the return window. I would not recommend this camera to anyone this camera has a ton of issues...

1) zones dont ever work properly
2) updates will mess up your cameras and you have to go through the process of resetting everything and re-syncing them REALLY TIME CONSUMING like 12-24 hours for the stupid thing to find itself
3) newer models does not record to your base station even with an SD card you NEED a subscription
5) does not record continuously even with someone in frame for 10 minutes it will record only the 1st 20 seconds
5) does not detect people on your property until theyre like 4 feet from the camera

YOU CAN NOT PROTECT YOUR HOME IF THE CAMERA ONLY RECORDS THE 1ST 20 SECONDS OF A BURGLARY OR ONLY WHEN THE BURGLER IS 4 FT FROM THE CAMERA

THIS CAMERA IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST PURCHASE IVE EVER MADE

Save yourself the headache DO NOT BUY this camera

Except their support is lackluster at best. I have the eufy Security eufyCam S330(eufyCam 3) 3-Cam Kit. The home base fan is going out causing a loud high pitched buffeting sound after only 5 months. Support has admitted that the unit is bad, and wants me to ship via usps to canada the home base. So I will have no access to cameras and doorbell now for what 2 weeks plus.. No cross shipping of a base when they already admitted it is defective is lack luster at best for a security product.

With 20+ cameras scattered around home and garden, the main reason I still am with Arlo is I need smaller (less visible) cameras. Then I can't understand how you can live without replaceable batteries: when 4 cameras have low batteries i just change 4 batteries and i keep going. While with Eufy I have to move away 4 cameras for the whole charging time: unacceptable.
All other specs are better for Eufy, so I don't know what to do.

I wouldn't recommend it. I'm an Arlo user going on two+ years. I have three outside cameras. Internal corrosion at the camera to case contacts has damaged two cameras. Corrosion on the spring loaded magnetic cable contacts is making for intermittent charging. The idea of putting a micro SD card in the SmartHub for local DVR capability is sheer vaporware. That DVR capability with no internet connection is a lie. Don't believe it because you will spend good time and money chasing a lie. Finally we come to the whole internet thing. If you loose internet, you loose security camera interoperability, period, because of the micro SD card capability is not there. All in all, I'm severely disappointed, and screwed, because I installed 4 cameras, probably close to $1000 of cameras, for a client that now has to be supported. The only thing they have going for them is the excellent picture, when the phone app actually works. I'm getting 30 second camera bring-up times when starting the app, and sometimes have to reboot, on an iPhone 7. God help you if you really need to be looking at the cameras during that time...

I WOULD recommend wired PoE system with an in house DVR that doesn't require internet...

I was an Arlo user for 5 years. Five Arlo Pro 2 HD cameras all with solar panels. Since they implemented an end of life for the products and stopped the free 7 day cloud storage. I bought the Eufy four pack S330 HB3 cameras with built in solar panels and lights. Increased the storage to 4 TB, even purchased an additional 2 Eufy Cam 3C’s. All in all i prefer Eufy. However, there some things the Arlo cams did that were slightly better. Arlo had motion and sound detection. Eufy only has motion detection. Arlo allowed 3 minutes of custom recording. Eufy with is much bigger battery only allows for 2 minutes custom recording. Speaking of batteries Arlo had removable, replaceable batteries. Eufy batteries are built in and cannot me replaced. The Arlo audio recordings where better. The speakers are bettter than Eufy cameras. Mind you these are cameras for over 6 years ago. However, Eufy has faster notifications and even still screenshots when it’s possible. In the end I prefer Eufy.

We’d be pretty gullible to think Eufy won’t go the subscription way like all the others.

So sick of arlo. The final straw today was when a family member was on the property and called me to say he was there and waving at the camera. There are 4 cameras he walked directly, and horizontally in front of. No notification was sent to me because none of the arlo cameras detected any motion. He was on foot when passing the cameras. Usually they alert of animals walking around, or even a wasp flying close enough in front of the lens. Today, however, complete silence from the cameras motion sensors. I started live stream on one of them just to see if it would work at all, and it started live streaming like it should. All motion settings were the normal 80 level. Not very reassuring security system.

There is an opportunity for a company to come up with an offer that overlaps these two companies. My big draw for Eufy was its S330 solar powered eufyCam and no subscription. With Arlo I would have had to link a separate solar panel something ungainly and would have ended up with a subscription. The drawbacks? I am missing Arlo's Apple compatibility and its ability to function as a proper CCTV system albeit I have no idea how good this is from Arlo. It is a tough choice and I made mine with some difficulty. At the end the thought of having another bill coming in every month was too much to bear and so a decision was taken. I note Eufy's offer for wi-fi free solar powered cams meaning one can place a cam anywhere in the planet where there is cellular phone signal and still no subscription something I believe Arlo doesn't offer.

I’d recommend switching to eufy I’ve been with arlo for over 4 years over 2k invested and they are an absolute joke

I’d recommend starting low then building your system up

I plan on dumping my arlo system by December this year and going to eufy

How about TP-Link as an alternative? They seem to have local storage and also have a cloud service that you can subscribe to if you want but you don't have to.

Eufy says "No Clouds or Costs" ....No costs because guess what? That means YOU are the product. It's like free ad-blocker software lol

Got my set of four beautiful 4K 3C's along with HomeBase 3 from Amazon this last Friday. The quality is superb! I wish I was rich enough to take the Arlo's I bought at Costco last year to the back of the woodshed (e.g. Office Space), but alas a refund shall suffice.

I just updated probably ten year old D-Link 720p and 480p cameras that just aren't supported anymore. I did some research and settled on Eufy going all in, mostly because of the reasons you gave for the Arlo subscription required for most of the functionality.

The icing on the cake for me was seeing the four, 4k solar camera with Homebase 3 that holds a hard drive on Amazon for $639 new over the July 4 weekend. I also bought six of the 2k pan and tilt indoor cameras as well to monitor the home while I'm away. I plan on the home security sensors, keypad, and doorbell next. I'm very happy with their products for the last 2 weeks I've been using them.

The question I have though is about Eufy. You didn't mention that Eufy offers a 24/7 monitoring option that is supposed to qualify for home insurance discounts. They offer two plans, for either $50 a year or $100 a year for the plus plan, which has the monitoring. Was there a reason you didn't cover the Eufy subscription for monitoring?

If people actually understood technology they would understand that the Eufy security concerns were unjust and exponentially blown out of proportion.
1). Access to a video stream via VLC involved an attacker having to have hacked into your network. In which case you have bigger issues. Also they would have needed to cobble together a URL for the camera. Also not an easy task.
2) Thumbnails to the cloud. This is how rich push notifications work for all apps. A user has the option to not have rich notifications, thus no thumbnail to the cloud.
