Malware in Google Ads: Fake OBS, VLC, Notepad++

About the tools and techniques shown in the video: Noobs, don't go deleting random padding in windows files, it will mess up the address locations and cause them to crash, this is a technique for downsizing malware to scan online, don't use it on system files without a clear understanding what you are doing. :)

Even without the zeroes, 15 megabytes is still pretty massive for malware.

Good source to find original website link is wikipedia. I came to know this type of attack long time ago. I knew original url of many websites but after searching on google found lot of similar urls. Most of those were malicious. So i started using wikipedia for finding original url/websitelink. Good thing is wikipedia do not allow anyone to change source data, one has to provide all info about himself inorder to change or add new data.

This is what happened to me today, google showed me Razer drivers that were in reality a trojan.

This is also kinda a problem of windows too, for not having a good modern store or centralized software repository install app

I'm using pfsense with pfblocker ng, will these kind of sites get immediately listed and updated in pfblocker ? Would be nice to know which feeds to activate to get this kind of protection, maybe the OP can do a subject on it ?

This is stale news. Online ads have always been the primary means of malicious payload delivery for decades. This certainly isn't a new phenomenon on the Google search engine either. Thanks to my religious use of ad-blocking software, I had almost forgotten that this problem still exists. Looks like I just lost the game.
