Everybody saying that the scene is funny are missing the point that Marvin gets shot at point blank just when Jules and Vincent are discussing the possibility of someone not being hit when shot at short range. The accident underlines that Jules and Vincent should be dead.

The most GRAPHIC example of WHY you need to keep yer finger off the bang switch, unless you MEAN to kill someone...

Got no trigger discipline, this happens every day.

Vincent shot Marvin in the head with a 1911, a single-action only pistol, but two seconds later its hammer is decocked. This is because Tarantino is a fantastic director with a keen eye for detail.

The line was ”I shot Marvin” but Travolta added ”… in the face” because he thought it sounded funny, like if it was on the same level as ”I stepped on his toe”. And Tarantino approved.
