There is a political side to how many people vote (you can't vote for the country you are in), neighbors, war, how the country is seen in Europe/ the few countries in it not in Europe, issues promoted, but I personally, as do my family vote on the best song and the one I liked the most.

Eurovision is not like the voice it is more an experience and more about the song than good singing, of course, that will play a part in how much you like it. I don't watch the heats most of the time or know the song but lots of people do for their country at least.

We have sushi (a kinda seemingly random tradition, but so good), rate the songs and some or all of my family depending on the year, vote. Me and my brother do each year. It's great. A good chance to talk about music, even if mostly not the best it's fine that's a part of it so fun listing to all the acts, graham norton is such a good host, so funny and he roasts the acts and then there is up late for the results.
