73 Oddly Specific Items to Declutter Today!

Do you or your kids not do different shoes/hats with different outfits? I’m all about decluttering but even I change my shoes and hats to my outfits. The different color and fit really does something to the mood when you change it up.

May I ask...how does your family feel when you make them get rid of things ? What if they don't want too?

Legit question do you ever sell perfectly good things? Like the box that came with the trampoline. You are disciplined enough to not keep it even knowing what’s there but someone on a local buy sell page could be looking for something you have plus you get some extra cash!
Another video one of your girls got a new bag from Diana you could sell that!!! Just like having a donation box you could have a sell box. You only can sell what can fit in that box everything else can go out do the house however you prefer.

Why are you buying new things when the old ones are not broken or worn out? I would think that the first rule of minimalism is don't buy another if you have one that works.

I have been decluttering for a while, but this episode helps me face up to the things I still hold on to. Thank you.

Why do I have to pay to watch you?

I throw all my hotel soaps in a "net soap holder," available on Amazon, and then use it like a regular bar. I also use these for regular soap.

That box of accessories might contain extra springs in case one breaks, as well as extra bolts and washers in case one falls out.

FYI those hotel samples are great for my shower kit at the gym. Also, the Smartwool company will take old socks for recycling. Any kind. They send a bag and you fill it up. I do try to mend small holes, but when they are past repair, they can do for recycling. For vases, there is a lady who sells home made bouquets locally, and she accepts extra vases for her business. So I bring all extras to her.

I use the old towels for when I have a large spill in the kitchen because I don’t mind throwing those on the floor 😊

This video was SO helpful to me! But I have a question: Can you address how to deal with saboteurs to your decluttering efforts? I'm a 72 year old retired woman who loves to organize. I want my home to be clean and tidy, and for the most part manage to keep what shows that way. However, I have a problem I've never seen addressed by any decluttering video. My husband of 51 years has a strange, emotional attachment to things he hasn't looked at in decades, and if he even suspects that I might get rid of anything he considers "his", he has an anxiety attack and/or will give me the silent treatment (sometimes for days). Clearly, there is a deep seated issue, but at this late date in our marriage I am not going to stir up trouble by encouraging him to see a therapist (which he would never do anyway). I have tried dozens of times to reason with him but to no avail. So I do my best to organize "around him". Example: We live in a condo and have a storage closet on our deck. In it he has a 5 drawer filing cabinet, plus 2 extra long bankers boxes filled with papers from jobs he had in the 80s and 90s. Whenever I mention the possibility of him offloading the papers and using the cabinet for other things we actually use, he goes nuts. So I managed to move the cabinet in a way that allows some space for other storage, got four 4-drawer plastic storage bins, which I CAN decide to organize and/or purge at will with things he doesn't care about: holiday decor, vases, gardening tools, etc. When I say I'm going to organize something, he seems to hear it as "I'm going to get rid of all your stuff." I have to reassure him over and over that I won't!

I might ask ..why did you buy the new curling iron when you had a perfectly good one that looks almost exactly the same besides the color?

If you buy shoes but wear them save them you spent money for new ones you will use in the future

I love your videos. I have downsides my mom 3 times. She wants me to store and keep everything. Old cookbooks. Everything. But I have had 3 years of health issues. Hospice in my home for multiple times, different family members, and then my own health. One day I will be able to make better moves. Right now, I'm struggling with day to day. Until then, I am learning. Until then I try to make one or two steps here or there.

I have an entire closet of photos before digital. I cannot part with them...but my craft supplies...whoooo boy. I need to purge. Thank you for this!

Old cotton towels will stay absorbent if you don't use fabric softener.

Label the trampoline accessories box and donate them.

2023 was my year to declutter my body. Down 77 pounds. 20 more to go, but I’m on a roll. So it will be a success. 2024 will be my year to declutter my home. I’ve already started. With my closet. So many clothes and shoes that no longer fit! These type of videos are so great to listen to while decluttering. Thank you for your content.

I always enjoy your shows. I am currently on a (end of life, downsizing, Swedish death cleaning) decluttering mission because at age 70 I know that my younger relatives don’t want a lot of my treasures! They have their own tastes for their own homes. I have decided to get info about auctions/buyers and start clearing out the rest for donations or dump.
Just a note: middle and elementary school art programs want your old magazines and newspapers. Animal shelters will take used sheets and towels. And luckily my community has a shelter for homeless women and children and they gladly accept gently worn clothes and shoes, etc, for their resale shop and also for residents to get choose interview/work clothes.

You are clear and informative but I am SO put off by your use of trash. Everyone has access to thrift / charity stores. As others mentioned; womens shelters, goodwill, animal rescue (for towels sheets etc).

I use old socks for cleaning rags. I put my hand inside and spray the sock. Black for a black surface so I don't get white lint on the black surface. And white for light surfaces. And if something is really yucky, you can just toss it then. However, since i hadn't yet learned the container concept, i now have a huge rag container. So using up and tossing some is beneficial. And the good ones i keep and reuse and store neatly.

But why do you get identical items? For eg your curling irons both look the same, if the old one was working why did you buy a new identical one? I am baffled. It's not like buying another spatula because your other one may be dirty and you real quick need another out of the drawer!

I would keep extra sunglasses in the car in case you forget the other pair. Should at least look in box, kind of stupid not to look. Spare parts should be kept.

Definitely you did not live through depression time, when people even had money, they could not but needed things because there were shortages

One question: if something is not broken and still working, why buy a new one? Doesn't sound frugal.

I am not underestimating the importance or effect of decluttering but I can't figure out why this so much focus on getting rid of what you have ( and you might wanna buy again in the future) versus too little talk about shopping wisely and buying less in the first place , which absolutely is the short cut to a declutter free life , let alone other financial gains !
