I've met the creator of the fishing anime/manga and still has his autograph! It's called "Tsurikichi Sanpei" by Takao Yaguchi. He was very serious about protecting the nature. He passed away few years back, tho.

BTW, shaku-yamame means yamame bigger than 12" (=1 shaku) that is considered giant in Japan.

Next time when you guy are in Japan, how about fishing right in the center of Tokyo? It is a fishing pond called "Benkei Fishing Club" right in Akasaka, by all the nice high-end hotels. It used be a moat of Edo Castle, I believe.

I have a Penn slammer 4 4500. I want one rod that can do what I need. I fish lakes and canals. I have a medium heavy and like it. The reel is way too heavy though. I have a medium and like it also. I like to throw jerk baits, worms, a few crank baits, and some paddle tails. Any suggestions? I was thinking a Penn carnage 3 or a Levante
