You Need To Start Your Mobile Mechanic Business RIGHT NOW!!!

Thanks brother this boosted my confidence in getting going. I’m a marine technician in Florida. Sadly I don’t live on the coast tho. Literally finished my first job on my own this past weekend. It was a success. I would love to know how do you build the clientele

The main thing that keeps me from getting into mobile mechanic work is the insanely high risk of having all my tools stolen and having to pay the equivalent of minimum wage for insurance that may or may not fully reimburse me.

I was driving down the road and my car started to run rough. Then my car's check engine light started flashing. I began to get very concerned, I was on my way to a client's house. I dug out my code reader, cylinder 6 misfire. I drove it to a parking lot after my work was complete. I started diagnosing my car, turns out it was a coil pack. I replaced the coil pack and now check engine light is gone. Someone who isn't a mechanic would have had to have their car towed home or to a auto shop. If they could even get an appointment at a auto shop. Feels good man to be a mechanic. My code reader cost around $120. I love my scanner!

How do you get paid if you get to the job and it Hass to go to the mechanic shop? Second question how do you keep from customers not wanting to pay you once the job is done. Probably only one or two customers you’ll run into like that but how do you how do you keep that from happening

I own a mobile mechanical repair business that repairs mowers, ATV, side by side and lots of other equipment. I got my cargo van set up with everything you wish you had in your van. I surely have the same attitude about the mobile repair business. The virus put a hurt on my service call numbers. Then came inflation and it slowed down some more. Here we are now and I'm only getting a few calls a week which is fine because I'm living in my van as designed so if there comes this need of urgency or just tired of the area I just go to a new area. 54 and very experienced with anything I work on. I like going out on a 10 minute service call and put $60 in my pocket. I can easily pay rent somewhere but I already like how I'm living compared to the house. The lake's in Texas are might fine this time of year then it's off to Colorado until heavy winter then a Florida winter. Have a Grand Business.

I grew up in Cbus. Family still there. I'm out in Newark now working as a RV tech. Went to school. Certified. Headed in the mobile tech direction. When the weather warms up I'll be in Cbus more for bike nights and running 270 with the crazy kids after dark. We should meet sometime so I can pick your brain about the business side. I’ve been doing the mobile mechanic gig for the last 2 years. I’ve been a tech for 14 years. Understand electrical once you do purchase and learn how to use a scope. Your Mechanic paid me $64/hour and when you figure out hard diagnostics for people they don’t mind paying a bit more. Like you said a good mechanic is worth his weight in gold

Dealership service shops have gone down in quality service. I took my 2021 KIA RIO S to have its oil changed at our local KIA dealership and the tech forgot to install the new o-ring. You can probably guess what happened after that. Good thing I noticed the leak in time or else someone would be buying me a new engine among other things after I take them to court. Never trusting these dealership shops ever again. Doing my own work whenever possible.

Great video. I did mobile twice. Once in '08 for a second job. Then as my bread and butter from '16-'18. Did small stuff at the customer's. Had a lift at home for clutches, engine swaps and steering racks. Been working on Bank owned homes for nearly five years. Might go back to repairing cars.

I ducking love this! I’m a “stay at home” tech support junkie, but need a side gig. I’ve literally bought kits to check for cracked gasket, changed my camry radiator, changed my camry alternator, cleaned my camry throttle body in my driveway, so i have some skills. But how to market to those clients in need is still an obstacle i’m trying to surmount. I’ve created business cards and have been leaving them on toyotas everywhere, but haven’t gotten my 1st client. Thinking of a car magnet next. Other ideas?

How do you become certified or what is needed to offer DOT inspections as a mobile mechanic business?

I am not much of a mechanic per see, But I am a mobile automotive locksmith. Its a bitch getting on google because of the rise in scammers, its basically very very very expensive to run ads, so I need to get business a different way.

great video! my question is how do you do your rates? do you ask the customer "Hey what are they charging you hourly?" or do you look up book times somehow on jobs?

I started my mobile mechanic business a couple months ago for all the exact reasons your saying. Been doing mechanics for to many years making other ppl money. Me doin motor jobs for them makin 150 bucks while the shops are pulling 1500 to 2k in my labor. It blows my mine what we make the man when doin it ourself we can charge 750 to 1k for the same job and the money is in our pocket and you just saved them half while making 4 or 5x what you would of doin it for someone else

Do you only fix auto? What about semi trucks, construction vehicles, etc. Like what a heavy duty mechanic (not sure what they call them in the USA) would fix.

I am not surprised every kind of product and services can be bought online. People are working from home if they can. It is not like gas is getting cheaper every day to drive to work and home.
