That brings back memories. I was on the next island over - Rinca - and walked around about 20 years ago. It was an amazing experience.

They're not a living dinosaur, birds are. They are different clade of organisms. But their ancestors were living with dinosaurs.

Shite,I remember going there in the mid 1980s…yup paradise then but now..,too much gringos.I took the slow route,local traffic,local amenities.Yup the gringos today too much comfy ness.

I just imagine that this creature sneak into the boat and walk out the island and spread out over the world.

Great Indonesian island tour. Awesome! If you want to see really big interesting Komodo dragons, aside from Komodo one best place is the jungle preserve next to Phetchaburi Province and University in Thailand. Next to the university, I did and you'd find Komodo dragons of the size you show here, even slightly bigger almost in public. But go into the well-preserved jungle park, you'll find Thai monitor lizards or Komodo Dragons, I agree with you these are in spirit and biology genuine simple Dragons that are nine-feet long and 300 pounds of weight. The Thais and European expats of adventurous nature know of these but it's not advertised because there are preservation worries. But weighing a complexity of factors, I think it in the best interest of these Komodo Dragons that this be more widely known so they can be protected and preserved properly.
