I’m 13 years old ; and I’m learning from TED faster than I would’ve in school! Or in my language… شكراً تيد يد
ОтветитьCan’t have language without grammar. Can hike do this up. - pretend > i 889. Yup! That’s right.
Ответитьyes it is.
ОтветитьI was trying to figure out what a compound sentence was and this didn’t exactly make that obvious, but all the same I don’t regret watching it lol. Seeing these videos at school I’m sure we can all agree it was boring but, now that I’m in college, I enjoy watching them.
ОтветитьYes but not taken to literally.
ОтветитьBest to say ungrammatical though.

ОтветитьWhen it comes to speech, I'm mostly a descriptivist, but in spelling, rules are kind of important. When I'm reading a text, I don't wanna waste time figuring out what the author meant because of spelling mistakes. I think just because more than 50% of the population thinks that "phase" is the synonym of "confuse" (even though that's "faze"), it doesn't make it correct.
If you say something like "he's literally a monster", though that's not preferable, I'm not gonna correct you. But if you write something like "he was unphased by his opponent", I might correct you saying it's "unfazed".
Why use more words when few do trick?
ОтветитьThis channel is so freaking awesome ! Great video !!!!!!
Ответить...Unless it's a tribble or a taun-taun or something, then it's: "Me and the alien"
ОтветитьGrammar matters. A lot.
ОтветитьPeople who are grammar nazis are just insecure about their intelligence and it makes them feel smarter because they can follow superficial rules.
ОтветитьWait, so it isnt me and the alians
ОтветитьI correct my students for that exact error: "Can me and Jose go to the office?" As their English teacher, I think speaking correctly (prescriptive) helps them when writing. Besides, my mom always corrected me for the same thing.
ОтветитьDescriptivism is necessary, and its effects are easily seen by looking at the dictionaries of any different eras.
Prescriptivism is much less flexible, and it must be so. Otherwise, what's the point of having rules of a language if those rules aren't followed?
;literally' has become pop internetspeak just a tagon as an exclamation point,"pre get attached to any and every verb businesses are the drivers behibd this,TV and film series used ot apply 'sequel' to a second plot taken from the main pgm now its 'prequel'
excetera too to posessive articles noun plurals, apostrophes nisused excape, loose lose often mispelled,,there are stacks of middle school booboos that are everywhere in speech writing, websites, sosh media,
inglish be like chikin soup recipes everyones got their own
Unless you're a language teacher and or majors in english language stop fckn correcting other people you fckn grammar nzi
ОтветитьIn my career, I corresponded with business people in two languages. I was quite proficient in both. However, I was astounded, astonished, and frankly insulted by the terrible grammar in replies I got from engineers, architects, gov't people etc. I always had the impression that they were not even conscious of how bad their writing "skills" were. The big question is: How did these people get through primary school with terrible grammar, spelling and illegible writing. In fact, even their printing was atrocious. I wouldn't feed it to a street dog.
ОтветитьThe question put forth in the video wasn't answered.
ОтветитьFight with Grammer, poor guy that thrown by book need justice
ОтветитьI 100% agree with this, I definitely can position myself as a descriptivism. Grammatically incorrect stuff for me is the stuff outside of the linguistic habits of people, so in my position, a Formal sentence can be grammatically correct/incorrect as can Informal sentence.
I don't like how people confuse formal with grammatically correct and informal with grammatically incorrect. For me, slang is part of grammar, and people who use slang are not speaking in a grammatically incorrect fashion, they're just speaking informally.
yet the same people still cant make money in writing
ОтветитьOnly when it is logical. Otherwise, I don’t follow alleged grammar rules. There aren’t even any officially established grammar rules.
ОтветитьShout out RSA❤️
Ответитьhve a tac and his pretty you know do agree wit thu vidoe
ОтветитьI unno then it means that I can break grammatical rules like instead of saying I'll eat I can change to eat I'll but see that's why I don't fully agree with descriptivism then it would no longer be a language, but each person would create their own separate language
ОтветитьKnowledge tester! Which sentence is right?
1. She wanted too visit her mom
2. She wanted two visit her mom
3. She wanted to visit her mom
+ Have a point ( there): point of view or opinion makes sense and is worth considering.
I know you're freaked out, but we can't call Mom and Dad at this hour—it's after midnight!
B: "OK, you have a point there."
+ Scholar (n) a person who studies a subject in great detail, especially at a university /someone who is intelligent or good at learning by studying
a classics/history scholar
Dr Miles was a distinguished scholar of Russian history.
+ So-called (a) : được gọi là
The so-called experts, who have a lot of knowledge, education, but actually they don't know anything
These so-called doctors really don't know anything
.It is surprising that a country is so-called developed but cannot provide food for its poor citizens
+ Grossly simplified /grously ../ : 1 cách dễ hiểu nhất là
I personally do not correct people's grammar when they are wrong, unless if they are studying English.
People actually wanted to speak and I believe there is a difference between Standard English from Vernacular English
THANK YOU ! I am from Germany and Its hard to learn grammar.
I was struggeling and you helped me very much!
Poor grammar doesn’t completely invalidate a person’s argument to me; but it does heighten my skepticism.
ОтветитьNo.

ОтветитьIf we speak as we write, I think it would be very and extreme formal.
ОтветитьLearned a lot from this vid! Love it!💗💗
ОтветитьWhen speaking to someone? It's not absolutely essential, because there are other factors that help to understand.
When you are writing a text? Oh boy no... you better write correctly if you want to properly express yourself...
What is the conclusion....does grammer matters or not
Ответитьa wise man once said: "ur toxci, dont korrect i gremmer is very good ur gremmer is just bad."
ОтветитьWhen you are still left asking the question posed in the title: TedNoEd
Ответитьgrammer
ОтветитьThey expect us to speak like we live in the Renaissance.
ОтветитьAnswer: only When it could lead to miunderstandings
ОтветитьAs kids we don’t speak properly and express all what we want thats why go to school and learn don’t say rules don’t matter always in school doing quizzes and exams teach us how to use the lenguage with rules is easier
ОтветитьHowdy.
My observation is that people express less and less nuances with correct words. People seem to use ultimates to convey shades. The language gets bipolarized. The language sounds dramatic but it has only mondaine contents.
It is exhausting to listen to dramatic speaking with little content.
Regards.
