Gerber Dime has very poor quality control. Mine was so hard to open that I lost a chunk of my fingernail. When I loosened the screws a tiny bit, it didn’t work as intended. Trash if you ask me.
ОтветитьVictorinox Alox Rambler is by far the best utility to size/weight. All the tools are surprisingly good for how small they are, seriously, have a good look. Shame it’s not available any more but I modded a Cellidor scaled Manager with titanium scales.
ОтветитьIf you get a good one you say, that is one hell of a dice throw. These things cost a lot of money. But thanks for the warning.
ОтветитьSo I bought the squirt maybe eight years ago and the scissors broke so I warrantied them. Then last year the pliers broke, and I sent those back. Well, they didn’t have any more squirts so they sent me a Micra. I don’t find this comparable to the squirt. The whole point of me having that small keychain tool was for the pliers, knife, and screwdriver. To me those are the most important tools.
at this point, I’m thinking that a pocket keychain tool is just not going to hold up to any real use. So now I’m just thinking about going for something that’s not necessarily humongous but will hold up to heavy use, which I will just keep in my car rather than on my person.
I've been using the Squirt PS4 for 13 years. Use it constantly and love it.
ОтветитьNextool Mini Captain lokks like one to one copy of Otacle P1 multitool. I'm not who was copying from who.
ОтветитьI just traveled by plane with my Leatherman Squirt Ps4 and Victorinox Signature Lite in a hand luggage. I usually use it as a keychain tools.
I think, the TSA even don't knows what is this small piece of metal at my keys- the Leatherman Squirt? 😀 No problem with airport security. Their blade is shorter as 6cm and it allowed in European Union airports.
Its so strange that they discontinued it! Now they go used for up to 70$!
4 Months after the release of this video, there is still no replacement.
Now the Style PS is discontinued too. Is Leatherman about to abolish themselves, discontinuing all of these absolutely successful products? Now if you want a lightweight EDC multitool, you can't buy from them anymore 'cause they don't have nothing to offer in that range. 🤷♂
ОтветитьTook my beloved Style CS accidentally to the airport and was stopped by TSA. I tried to argue that the blade on it was smaller than the max size that TSA has on their website but the supervisor refused to budge. And now I gotta pay almost $100 for a new one on eBay.
ОтветитьI've been very happy with my Nextool Mini Sailor as a replacement for the Squirt I misplaced
Noticed that they now do a Sailor Scissors model (which I would've preferred had it been available when I bought mine)
I thought it was pretty funny that you look at the Roxon M2 and talk about the scissors being absurd then look at the mini flagship and sing its praises for the large scissors and the execution of the both is nearly identical.
ОтветитьWhat is the tool in the very top left of the screen in the start of the video?
ОтветитьDoes anyone know if 1. Lm ever had military contracts or 2. Do they supply any tools to the military? 3. I know MUT is a specialized tool. Are there any others that have been designed as a military issue tool?? TIA
ОтветитьWell done. Excellent demonstration. But now i want a Leatherman squirt.
ОтветитьSo nothing really beats the squirt size quality and usability
ОтветитьI love my Squirt!
I use the blade, file, and the dikes almost every day.
I also use the plyers and scissors fairly regularly.
Entire Squirt and Juice lines discontinued. What the hell was leatherman thinking. Oh well, I picked up a nextool flagship mini pro to replace my squirt ps4. And it's better in every way.
ОтветитьYou keep mentioning the Squirt not having a tweezer... It depends on which version you have... I've removed many a splinter, from myself and others, while working in woodshops over the years, with the help of the tweezer on my Squirt S4... Honestly, if they'd have combined the pliers into the S4 to have them instead of the scissors, it'd be the perfect tool for me!!
ОтветитьWHy discontinue the Squirt it was the best mini multitool in my opinion. R.I.P. Squirt.
ОтветитьAll right now….I’m blaming you for this…I’ve started a collection of mini multi tools.
ОтветитьGreat video! Would be awesome if you could do some tools one size smaller
Not necessarily tiny swiss army knife, but for example the Nextool one hand pocket knife multitool, Gerber prybrid, niteize doohickey, the super generic carabiner knife with bottle opener flat/philips
Smaller in the sese of no pliers so only half the handle size at 1 instead of 2, or less blades/flipouts so its flatter and thinner. Idk if the term is still multitool for some of these but theres alot of different cool products out there without any comparisons on quality and you got some good points on quality
Does the carabiner on the Style PS work as a bottle opener? Good bottle opener would be one of the most useful features for me in a tool like this, and I would like a bladeless tool as well for carry and travel. I also hate that the Gerber Dime Travel is discontinued for this reason.
ОтветитьPS4 concept is cool and probably works for many people that just want a small package, but i prefer to keep my small pliers inside my swiss army knife instead - and have better scissors, better blades etc. Victorinox's knife pliers are in fact a bit underrated, specially for tasks that require more accuracy. If i needed to up my pliers' game i would either buy a Victorinox SwissTool or buy something like a Knipex to carry alongside my Swisschamp.
P.S. Forgot to say, i think that discontinuing the PS4 is a big mistake nervertheless.
All of the tools shown here are perfectly serviceable but it somehow makes me pine even more for the Squirt. I own a single, now very well used example and wish I had bought a few more when I had the chance. Leatherman should really take note of what is said here and also on other platforms and consider reintroducing the Squirt. It would be very popular.
ОтветитьUmm, okay, where do I start.
1. That's not a Captain you called Mini.
2. Roxon M2 has great scissors, bit kit, 3D Philip's.
3. Nextool had problems with quality with calves?
So how does that beat out Roxon M2? Because the Mini EDC tools aren't having huge plier heads? Can the Roxon do the job of the Nextool? YES!
Just saying you don't make sense and pretty picky.
prob because the scissor spring breaks even when you don't use it ,the spring is poorly made after the 3th replacement broke i gave up ,my leatherman squirt is been more time at leatherman the in my pocket, sad course its a very handy tool
ОтветитьI've carried my Style PS through airport security dozens of times without issue. I had a TSA agent ask me to take it out of my bag and put it loose in a bin with all the tools deployed, so that is how I've taken it through security ever since. I did have the scissor spring break while traveling at Christmas. Leatherman fixed it under warranty with no hassle, other than having to pay to ship it to them.
ОтветитьNew subscriber. Great content. Recently lost my SOG PowerLite Mini at TSA. (Didn't realize it had fallen deep into a crevice of my carry on). TSA was great and simply confiscated and I went on my way. Looking for a replacement that is TSA friendly.
ОтветитьI have sog crosscut because tweezers
ОтветитьNice video, thanks.
The manufacturer seem to neglect some sizes... This small one has still some coverage as you demonstrated but there is very little in the slightly higher dimension, that to me would be the most pocketable and useful, I mean about the "PowerPint" size.
I actually have a no brand multitool that is perfect, except that quality is awful... It actually has very nice pliers, a decent Philips head that by looking at it seems a #1, and all the rest is pure crap, unfortunately. But the size is perfect as it is the boxy shape, looks very much like a Victorinox swiss tool scaled down by 30-35 % in all dimensions. It does not have a pocket clip, but if it did would carry pretty much like a civivi elementum, to give you an idea... I am really puzzled as to why nobody is doing a similar tool, would be perfect for everyday carry, big enough to house a usable blade and decent size tools, small enough to carry with no hassle. Even Leatherman abandoned the size by discontinuing the juice, and I don't get it. Do we all have to carry a PowerPint if we need a pocketable but reasonably usable multitool? Come on, manufacturers!
Actually Roxon is trying to do something in the category, but not slim enough for my taste.
It bothers me that the Squirt is being dicontinued. It has always been flawed, but less so than the Micra IMO. I think they were losing money replacing them. They could have just copied the flat spring design that Vic uses, which is decades out of patent, but were obsessed with trying to be clever with their scissors, and tooling up to do something like heat treat once would have save them enough to make it profitable in the long run. But LM hasn't always had the best business sense.
ОтветитьI have both the Flagship Mini, and the NextTool Sailor (I think you called it a Captain, marketed differently I guess). I really like both, but the Sailor gets more pocket time. I'd like a Powerpint, but living in the UK EDC stuff needs to have a non-locking blade. I often carry a Leatherman Bond for this reason.
Ответитьafter one week playing around in my hand not even use it only playing in my hand open close etc my mini flagship broke shame really disapointed
ОтветитьI bought 3 Leatherman Squirts before they are not longer available 😅
ОтветитьLooking for a replacement of the squirt with the wire stripper pliers
ОтветитьThanks for another great video! I ran across a tiny little multi tool at a flea market. It reads Sheffield stainless steel on the body of the tool & weighs in at 1.86 ounces. I opened up all of the tools & they are solid strong. The scissors work great, there's also 2 small flat drivers, small Phillips, awl, blade, can opener & file. The spring loaded plier & wire cutter are solid. It looks like a tiny Leatherman with those same knurled screws that you need a special tool or vicegrips for. It's seems like the same quality you'd get with a Leatherman too. I gave the guy $5 for it. It needs work though as the side with the blade, file, larger flat head & awl are so difficult to take out it's almost unusable. I'm going to try flushing with oil & cleaning it up before I try loosening those screws.
ОтветитьMy screwdriver-on-the-end-of-the-file tip snapped off. Contacted Gerber. Warranty process initiated, then they delayed because of supply chain issues. Now they no longer respond to emails. It’s been 2.5 years since I contacted them.
ОтветитьI missed out on the Squirt so I'm looking at a Style PS or Micra. I'd like to have both pliers and a blade. Is it possible to put Style pliers in a Micra? If not, is it possible to add a blade to the Style PS? Would like to stay with Leatherman if possible and not buy used. Thanks in advance!
ОтветитьIf you do want a bottle opener the Dime's is amazing. But makes an awkward shape that can catch when carrying. The package opener is great both for its inclusion and execution. The knife blade is relatively sturdy being sheepsfoot, but a point would be more useful. Flat driver is good, and the Phillips is ok but they should ditch the excuse for a file that comes with it. I do miss the full size good file of the squirt. The dime is not as well made as the squirt, but then it is much cheaper, at least in the UK.
ОтветитьI got one of the bad flagship minis. Spring tabs cracked. Otherwise it would be great. Really I think that the design of the spring tabs is bad more than it being a quality control issue, there are stress risers at the base of them, and the metal is too insubstantial for that design.
ОтветитьAbout 6 years ago there was a Christmas sale on the Gerber Dime for $10. I bought 6. 4 for gifts and I kept two. Since then I bought 2 more so I have one for each car. I really like the Dime. The package opener is the best. I've used all kinds of knives and cutting utensils, but this one is kinda perfect. And when I let my kid use it to open a box, it's one of those angled blades so it won't cut the item in the box. It's always in my pocket. The scissors are the weak point. They are fine for light use, but not much more. No worse than most other pocket multi tools.
ОтветитьSquirt s4 all the way, to the point that I bought a lot of 6 of them on ebay when i lost mine. Leatherman still sold them at the time but had gone back to the old design with the tools on the inside. Also my squirt s4 has tweezers, did the pliers version of the squirt not have tweezers? Or was it the version with the tools inside that had no tweezers?
ОтветитьI recently bought blue scales and the pocket clip to put on my Victorinox hunter that I love it will be even better with the mods installed
ОтветитьLove my skeletool with my olight baton 3 pro. I'm my front right pocket. Use them both everyday.
ОтветитьMy favorite color is blue so I really like the blue colored steel scales on the nextool
ОтветитьI bought my Squirt just 2 weeks ago in Ukraine. Probably it was one the last available tool from the official store
ОтветитьWhat is the tool in the top left at the beginning of the video?
Ответить
