If I had a million dollars to buy a boat I would buy and restore the last sailboat my family built, the William H. Albury!

If I had a million dollars for a boat, I would hire Rober Perry to design a 40-45 foot aft cockpit cutter optimized for short handed sailing.

Another very good episode. Regarding the boat for a million dollar, i would go for one of Hans Christian Christinas and spend the rest to live on the sea and never have to worry about marina fees again

I would follow your lead - and just hire some help to build my own boat! No other boat out there that would have the properties I'm going with. 😎

Choices of boats if i won a million dollars (listing) (top choices of boats today) (explantion followup)

1. Beneteau Oceanis 50/55. (The design is flawless. no need to say more).

2. Amel 54. (Mastercabin in the aft is my top choice). Super Amel 2000 was on the top for a long time. Due to its design, and still is because the longivity of the model, that breathes quailty thruout the build, construction and design.

3. Naruto Swan 48 (comfort/speed mix well togheter in worlds best quailty build of Finland)

4. Leopard 45 (cat) (most common and popular model used, bought, owned.) (see no.6 comment)

5. Jeanneau 54/55/50DS. Popular models. Selective interior design.

6. Privilige 585. (cat) (spacious family model) (But have to think also that owning a cat doubles the maintenance cost)

7^^^Bravaria models (Bravaria 55) are on the uprise, but theres still a discussion about their keel issues. As people warned about the keel is falling off. But I guess Bravaria have fixed some of the issues while releasing the new C44 (2023).
There are ways thou to self encapsulate the keel, base and hull it self, while strenghtening the bolts.

8. Hallberg Rassey models - Well equipped models, but has alot of IKEA feel to it. Minor issues in general. (Peoples boat)

9. Pearson 36, Good sailing cruiser on the smaller side, versitile. Good for DYI. (UMA owns one) (not really a fan of smaller boats but they really did a good redesign of the interior).

*Buying a boat requires also alot of thinking on the consequences. Commodoity, safety, comforts, privacy. moving around inside and outisde the boat, number of crew, demands and requirements.
***Comfort ratio, Capsize ratio, are critical for comfort. Those looking for a faster boat for such as racing,, running along between ports in a rush, have lower standards.
There´s lots more to say....

But as for now Benetaue and Jeanneau is my top choices atm. Pending on structure, construction, quality, design & layout, functionality,, and have the ability of changes to my reqiurments.

....

That’s a shockingly hard question! On the one hand, a Rapido tri would be nice. On the other, a Formosa 51 - complete with full teak interior - would make an awesome cruising boat. Or maybe an older 60’ish foot gaff rig working boat, with 2ft bulwarks and spacious accommodation. Hmmmm…. 😂

Also, check out Jarvis Boards - they do stitch and glue paddleboards and I’m currently building one of their kayaks.

$1,000,000 boat would be a catamaran with solar panels on top for about $650,000. I would keep some money to be able to travel the world and costal cruise mostly.

After following SV Delos since the beginning of their journey, I think that if I had a million to spend on a boat it might likely be an Amel, based on their apparent durability and quality. Then I'd have money left over for cruising for awhile too!

I would work on the boat for free, just for the experience!!

Perhaps that would be a great opportunity to gain some free labor, work on the boat now, and sail when your done !!! I'm sure lots of people would consider it.

If you epoxy in the shower drain when it gets plugged with hair and slime, it can be difficult to snake out the blockage. Instead, recommend a removable shower drain.
