Just a thing, the pivot controls works by changing the point around the which the contrast curve rotates.
By going higher, the point is higher , resulting in a darker image (which can lead to a less harsh looking contrast curve) and vice versa.
And the curves, other than the custom curves, can introduce a lot of noise and break the image if you're not careful.
Different ways to adjust skintones would be to either key them and use other controls or to key them before the look and then mix those skintones with the look using a layer mixer.
