On this episode of This Week in Linux. The first 6 Year LTS Linux Kernel was released this week. Huge Update from Mozilla with Firefox Quantum. New distro releases from Fedora and Slax. Linux now dominates the Supercomputer Market, well even more than it already did. This week I made a new way to easily find out what Linux games are on sale on Steam. All that and much more.

But what if Munich switching to Linux was bureaucratic political nonsense? oO

Why do you think they made their own? Because the whole thing was being driven by zealots. It was a typical moral superiority play that was rare in those days, but seems to be at least 98% of all political decisions these days.

Great show Michael, will definitely check out Unity spin, a bit of love and focus could create an awesome desktop, like that name Immunity!! Munich??? so it doesn't matter what country you live in most councils have no idea!!

That whole Munich Windows switch sounds more like someone or some people are getting their pockets lined. Not much of it made much sense. The words "Linux" and "too expensive" don't even work in the same sentence unless there's a "NOT" jammed in the middle. I wonder how "expensive" it's going to be after their first data breach, ransom-ware attack or just malware infection. At least the city employees will now be able to properly game on government hardware with out having to mess with WINE and Play On. :) Also I think Slax should have to change the distro's name to Debix.

Gday I am considering moving over to Basilisk. One addon I miss is one that actually limits firefox to a certain speed that stopped working ages ago

Gday. I recommend disabling 3rd party cookies (any OS) and installing ublock origin and install noscipt. Ive always liked a proper desktop icon , icons with text and file menu program over touch menuless design... I use Littlefox theme for firefox

They do very bad job communicating what container tabs are. I needed replacement for tab groups extension and tab containers is the proposed alternative. REALLY? It doesn't have ANY of group tab extension. In fact, it has nothing to do with tabs really so the whole name is misleading. Additionally, UI of the plugin is so simplistic, that it doesn't convey what is it really for so many users wonders how to add tabs to a group like "personal" "work" "shopping" etc. because they thing it will group opened tabs....

Even after knowing what is it for, it's still not doing what I want: it doesn't give me quick access to tabs I need and it should have that feature along with what it has now and only then it will be truly useful.

Good video as always, although sound quality is bad.
My thoughts about some topics:
1. I'll switch to Firefox ESR for the next few month, otherwise I'd loose at least a dozen addons.
2. The best screenshot tool for Firefox I ever found is/was the Pearl Crescent Page Saver which can also capture the full website. It came out years before Firefox introduced it's on screenshot tool. The rewrite for the new Firefox addon API is called Page Saver WE. It's still great, but lost features and has to make chin-ups (I think it scrolls the website while capturing) to provide the full website capture. I wonder why the official Firefox screenshot tool can still capture the full website without problems, while other addons are not allowed the full access they had before.
3. Another brand of desktop and laptop computers intended primarely for use with Linux is the German brand Tuxedo. They belong to a bigger company called Schenker. The hardware you get is stuff from Clevo etc., just relabeld and slightly customized.
4. The people responsible for Munich switching back to Microsoft software are either corrupt (Microsoft built new European HQ at Munich) or clueless or both. In Germany huge amounts of critical data is still entrusted to propietary systems partly on servers outside the country including very private stuff like personal health data and the individual has no way to prevent this. BTW Munich is the capital of Bavaria which is also the home of SUSE LINUX GmbH. Why didn't they co-operate with that company to run their Linux-project?
