I'll be growing carrots from seeds that were harvested from grocery store carrots tops. Only took me 2 years of trying to get this far😅

Actually some citrus - particularly limes, calimondions, oranges and tangerines - will come true from seed. This is unlike common deciduous fruits such as apple or pears 😃

I wonder if I can regrow a spring (tall green) onion over winter in my kitchen? They are so expensive to buy in winter...

The scraps that flower, let them go to seed. The seeds can be harvested and replanted.

It's silly what people will call a "hack." Did anyone seriously not know you can grow garden vegetables from scraps?

One thing very important she forgot to mention is that when they go to flower if pollinated they will then go to seed and you can grow a hole new plant. We got some mint plants for our garden, and after a month it started to die back but I noticed that it went to flower so we left it, the original plant died but a new one grew somewhere else in the garden and now its taken over

Whenever i get green onions i always plant them in a pot in my kitchen and i can reharvest them 5 or 6 times before they become too weak to grow further, they grow about 1/8 an inch a day

carrots and potatoes work better if you cut them then let it scab over. I find if you keep them in water they just rot.

But what cultural level do they have in that region to not know that an apple tree reaches full production in no less than 5 years? Otherwise what use would plant nurseries be?

I've had a lot of success regrowing carrots from the tops. Also potatoes. We ate some of our own potatoes yesterday. I once grew a massive avocado tree from a seed with a shoot in it. It started bearing fruit after eight years and were the biggest (600g - 1kg) and tastiest avos anyone had ever tasted. I've moved to a cooler climate now and left my tree behind, but it's still going strong!

I planted a HUGE seed from an organic lemon almost 2 years ago and the tree started out with sunlight and then I moved it indoors under grow lights. It grew a tree that has great big thorns. If you touch the leaves then smell your fingers it smells wonderful! I germinated the seed in a wet paper towel inside of a plastic ziploc bag that I aired out each day.

Sad ah that some pricks decided it was a good idea to modify veges etc so we cant grow them on from the seed. They will tell you people don't like seeds in their vegs etc. Whatever - its so they can have the monopoly over what's grown. Wait till you cant buy packet seeds anymore.

For lettuce you should also cut down part which dried, just a slice, then it will root sooner.

i think of course some things are easier than others and some will mitigate the need to ever buy more of that produce again, like garlic or potatoes. get ur mileage out of your bought produce so you can save money, or create compost or more food!

Very interesting video. It seems inefficient to try to regrow these scraps to eat the same plant repeatedly.
This seems like it would be great for selective breeding of plants though. Eat part of a plant to find the most delicious ones, only try to grow the most delicious ones with the goal of producing seeds.
