List of different medical assistants degree level
ОтветитьCould you possibly make a video about public health or even biomedical sciences?
ОтветитьWhat about dental technicians?
Ответитьyesss Shane, I don’t know why but I feel as if you are intrigued with the sonography industry because you talk about it in many of your videos. I can’t blame you I am too. I’m in cardiovascular sonography school now. I’m 20 graduating at 21 and will travel in two years post graduation but first on the list is building experience and connections.
ОтветитьCardiovascular perfusionist is also a really great healthcare career if you can get into one of their schools. Most of them are about 2 year masters programs and once you graduate and get certified, you can have a starting salary between 130k-200k+ (depending on location) just right out of school.👀
Ответить15 years as a dental assistant here. Here is some unasked-for and potentially biased info I wish I had before getting into dentistry lol. =)
I would put dental assistant as a D as well, for very different reasons though. There is a considerable demand for RDAs (at least in WA state), there is quite a shortage and dentists are paying better than ever to retain staff. That said, it is a mentally and physically demanding job that can cause body injury and daily pain for a lot of us. It is not easy or even doable to have good posture a lot of the time, as a result, there are not many assistants that stay in the field until retirement. A lot eventually move to the front office or get into sales or teaching- a lot have to reevaluate their education/ employment prospects (myself included.)
Dental hygiene is great money and hours but is very demanding on the mind and body. Lots of daily pain and injury among hygienists, and the work can get monotonous too. Dental insurance companies are causing harm to the industry and this shows in the balance between quantity and quality. Dental staff are often pushed to do as much as possible with every minute of the day to try and balance that equation. Hygienists especially feel this pinch in the increasing demands on their time over the years. It is nice to be able to just show up, do your job, and go home though.
Dentists do make good money but the increasing cost of doing business these days is reducing that income by a significant amount. Keep in mind that after 8 years of being a broke college student and upon graduation there will be some huge expenses they will likely incur in a short amount of time- student loan payments, maybe a new car to replace your college economical choice, a house, maybe marriage and kids (childcare in western WA is the same as full-time tuition at the U of W), purchasing a practice and possibly updating equipment in your clinic, etc. Also, dental school does not prepare students for some very real parts of being a dentist such as business skills, financial planning, best practices for your office, employee leadership, office protocols, scheduling, etc. A few examples of why this can be an issue: A dentist unwilling to learn about personnel leadership for themself or to hire someone else qualified to lead will possibly have higher staff turnover and will therefore cost more in the long run. OR a new dentist will sign up for as many insurance plans as possible to increase potential patient base only to find out about how little some/most insurance companies actually pay so they now have to find a way to see more patients in their day to meet their financial goals and therefore be potentially on the fringes of burnout as a result. Dentists have a lot going on in the 5-10 years after school financially, mentally, and emotionally in trying to balance being a new business owner with being a new clinician and the rest of life is doable but a lot. It is fantastic to be your own boss though, to be able to do health care the way you think is best for you and your patients. If you want the big bucks get into specialty!
In dentistry, there are few options to use your education and training outside of clinical work making it difficult to pivot to a different career while also maintaining your income level should you get burnt out or injured. Also worth noting is that most assistants and hygienists will eventually max out on their pay and won't get much more than a cost of living increase after you hit that ceiling. It is very common for hygienists and, to a lesser extent, assistants to work 3-4 days a week out of necessity (bodily pain and mental burnout are real) so that big yearly salary will be less as a result. Maybe you can afford to work less due to higher-than-average pay tho so hopefully it evens out. In WA, due to the shortage of assistants and hygienists, it was possible to increase your pay, especially post covid, but dentists had to take that payroll hit from their budget and were none too pleased about it, understandably.
I hope this helps anyone interested in dentistry! Good luck out there!

ОтветитьInteresting the source you have puts the average pay for MD at 184k, lowest pay on average is Pediatrics, and they usually sit in the 200k range on average. Specialities like radiology, dermatology, specialty surgeries put you in the >400k range. In locales of need, I've heard hospitals paying over 1 million for surgical specialities. Love the vids!

ОтветитьShane can you make a video on Project Management degree
ОтветитьHey Shane, can you Kindly make a video on degrees for active military members/veterans.
ОтветитьYou should do a video of PT vs PTA. PT is 7 years of school and PTA is 2. PTA costs significantly less, and you start making money earlier. PTAs have less paperwork, but still get to do the fun visits with the patients. PTs often end up doing only evaluation and discharge visits, and then they do not get to see the patient for the routine visits in between or get to really know their patients.
ОтветитьTechnical names: Physical THERAPIST Assistant and Occupational THERAPY Assistant
