Well more population can be good, manpower is no joke but contextually it isn't really that good for us in Southeast Asia, at least in Latin America you have the land and resources to better accommodate your large population, Southeast Asia does not, this is a comparison between a region vs a continent + parts of a 2nd continent (because countries like Mexico are included which are part of North America)

Along with that Southeast Asia has gone independent in the last century while Latin America went independent in the 1800s, you had more than a century and even with our disadvantage we're still catching up

The Philippines - Spanish Colony, transferred from Spain to USA in 1898, invaded by Imperial Japan in 1941, liberated by USA in 1944-45 then officially independent from USA in 1946
