Downstream and upstream used to confuse me as well, but I think about it like old video tape to tape recording. Source deck > to > record deck. Signal flow is affected AFTER or DOWNSTREAM - meaning the LAST THING to be affected. It’s a dumb naming scheme and should be abandoned, but there many many people in life that just cannot let go

How do i exported afx mp4 and get them to play on the atem? cant get them imported.

As a vMix operator, this is all so confusing to me. Cannot see the benefit of using a hardware encoder.

I just bought the ATEM Mini Extreme ISO. I am having issues switching cameras. It is wanting me to select the camera to cut to, then push the CUT button in order to go to that camera. On my ATEM Mini Pro ISO, I could just click the camera to go to and it would switch instantly. I must me missing something,.

In explaining why "Upstream" is in front and "Downstream" is behind, (which seems counter intuitive) I'm reminded of the theatrical stage directions. "Up Stage" means away to the audience (towards the back of the stage) and "Down Stage" means closer to the audience and footlights. Early theatrical stages were slightly slanted up to allow the audience a better view of the entire stage. Perhaps this is one explanation for the adaption of these video terms.

Excellent video, thank you! One HUGE drawback of the ISO version is that the super source is not recorded into the DaVinci project file. It’s just black. And no, there is no workaround.

Just saw your video and you say adjusting iris is not possible but you're wrong. Of course iris is adjustable, it's the most important thing, just click on the 'up/down' arrows below 'black' and 'shutter'.

Great content, thanks! Tiny thing: It seems you attached the overhead cam to the desk you're sat at. Or your desk is shaking. Either way it's shaking a liiiittle bit.

Upstream and downstream make sense if you think of it, hehe, in terms of the oil industry (or a river). "Downstream" means "towards the end of the production line", so refineries, whereas "upstream" means at the beginning, so oil extraction.

Good content. But please slow your fingers down. Pressing buttons every 15ns doesn't show anything useful.

Is ethernet required for streaming? We just got a Mini Extreme and it will only push the stream if it's hardwired. Not all of our venues have an accessible physical network so this is a major issue if true. I posted the question on the BM forum and a moderator deleted it immediately. I realize it's an elementary question but I literally can't find an answer anywhere.

Excellent tutorial! I have the ATEM Mini Pro and finally have an Extreme at work, so this was a great refresher of what the Extreme has to offer. I'm working on understanding all the broadcast-specific language/skills. USK, DSK, Chroma, Luma, DVE, StreamDeck, Companion- I'm working on learning more about ALL of this, in an effort to provide much better live production services as part of my full time job.

Does the mini extreme have the same Program/Preview options like the mini pro? On my pro I can set up my preview on the actual deck but it seems the extreme doesn't allow for that kind of use??
