manjaro is still breaking today with use of AUR installs
ОтветитьOrganizations have internal arguments at times. Doesn't discredit them.
ОтветитьThankyou for this upload. I was about to download the ISO untill i watched this 👍
ОтветитьJust yesterday my manjaro stopped recognising my Wifi card (ax200) for no reason. But I love manjaro for some reason. Maybe it's because I'm an asshole.
ОтветитьU basicaly say the company needs to do more... i gotta say steam is the same and they have much more money still so much issues..btw bro u talk like the world is ending and then say not so big then do it again xD u mad man...at first thought: Wtf dude, this is what we call fishing for attention.. i wouldve rly liked a basic suggestion at the end for distro use...
ОтветитьI considered tuxedo laptop but they are XMG rebrand which is a Clevo rebrand which is made in China i choose an nnot made in china but windows evil over a linux but made in china evil
ОтветитьI'm leaving Manjaro for Mint. It broke thanks to the AUR.
ОтветитьManjaro is not a serious distro. It's 2023 and she still can't access or create samba shares. Linux Mint can do it even in live cd!!! A real shame this Manjaro, she shouldn't exist.
For me Manjaro is an Anti-Linux distro!
Yeah, as a Pine Phone user, I'd like to see Manjaro take a #@&* hike. Pin64's decision to pick them as the only supported distro and to start shipping devices without towboot pretty much killed all development on that device. I'm super disappointed because I actually like the hardware.
ОтветитьI remeber in 2012 Xfce iso crashed in french when you tring to change wallpapers desktop .... And the anwser of the lead is just use manjaro in english ....
ОтветитьWhat os is he using in first 30 seconds video
ОтветитьI feel this video has not aged well over the last seven months.
Manjaro is one of my three favorite distros out of the dozen I tried. While you are certainly entitled to your opinion I respectfully disagree about Manjaro being near the bottom of the desirability list. It’s a terrific distro in many ways. Its few shortcomings are easily compensated by its many benefits.
Is there any chance you can approach Manjaro again with an open mind? Sometimes putting aside old grievances can be beneficial. Maybe the Manjaro team saw this video and learned from their embarrassing mistakes?
Thanks for producing terrific content every week. I learned so much from you. The Linux Experiment is one of my favorite YT channels. Cheers!
Gotcha!
ОтветитьJust checked ; earliest entry in the /var/log/pacman.log on the computer I use at the moment is May 22nd, 2016, kernel 4.6. That's 7 years and a month of incremental updating without reinstalling. The computer I first installed Manjaro onto is now my wife's, I installed the system on December 9th, 2014, kernel 3.16 and faithfully updated on a weekly basis ever since. It is currently well in its 8th year of continuous operation, going strong. It switched itself from KDE 4 to Plasma 5 without a hitch, and survived all the hardware swapping incurred by keeping such an antique Intel core 2 quad current !
Enough said : Manjaro is rock solid when used within reason. I had one major issue during the period, that forced me to do some heavy surgery inside the initrd (Nvidia's fault). But even that didn't cornered me into reinstalling. Before switching to Manjaro, I'd been distro hopping between Slackware, RH, Mandrake, Fedora, FreeBSD, but none survived more than 3 years before breaking down. All distros have issues, many have a toxic team / forum, that's sadly human nature. I'm old enough to remember a kernel dev killed his wife, ffs. A lot of the fuss surrounding Manjaro is petty in comparison, and rather tame compared to the drama we were used to in the early days.
Manjaro is not Arch. The AUR access is to be used very sparingly, and is actively discouraged.
Is it perfect ? No. Do I wish some matters were handled differently ? Absolutely. But it works.
This is nothing new mate, Manjaro has been seen as unfavorable by most for 5, 10 years now
ОтветитьA rolling release might be less stable if you rice your system. But as a normie user looking for a hassle free experience, Manjaro has been great. It's disappointing to hear this news. I hope they get their act together. You expect to be able to trust your system maintainer when choosing one of the big dog distros.
ОтветитьThis looks like such a clickbait and this guy is literally talking about the certificates from 7 years ago in the time when hating on manjaro became popular, interesting.
Ответитьi am staying away from this distro
Ответитьwhats the point of just addressing bad behavior? bad behavior should be confronted, exposed and penalties imposed. for my part i cant not trust manjaro and will never recommended it to anyone even if it pubs golden nuggets at a future date. theirs seems to be a history of repeated bubus in the making. on a different subject: once there was this funny german mustached guy who people perceived only needed a calm down Munich agreement. 70-85 million died...
ОтветитьYou started this saying you weren't gonna crap on Manjoro but what you said sounds pretty damning. Sounds like that company needs to get it's shit together.
ОтветитьI'd also like to add that a properly set up SSL even if you do it yourself, renews automatically. Again my VPS I manually set up the SSL and it auto renews.
Ответитьmanjaro fail to boot after update 3 times for me in short period. It's more than Arch did when I used it. Seems like dependencies not tested enough too.
ОтветитьI have been using manjaro for the last year, at least. All the problems that i have seen have been rectifiable. I'm using manjaro XFCE version, and everything is up to date. I agree with one aspect on the software. I was using code , which is a manjaro version of VSCode but it was not the same. Extensions were not always available and i finally decided to download Vs Code from Microsoft. Its working like a charm!!! I would suggest that manjaro don't include code in their repertoire of software.
I did see the certificate issues, I ran a sequences of steps to correct it to no avail. However, I had an inspiration and ran an update using pacman and all the problems were fixed. So i guess they heard about the problem and corrected it within a bigger than usual update. My kernel is very recent, and everything is working fine.
One problem that i have noticed with manjaro that returns around the same time each day. I'm not sure it is the remote host connected via ssh or if manjaro. I believe it manjaro. For about 10 - 20 seconds my internet connection, my terminal running monitoring software just freezes. BANG. After some time, it goes away. I run journalctl to see if there were any errors at the same time. I check systemd services to see if there were problems. But nothing popping up. Any ideas or area's i should be exploring?
I also use sshfs to connect to my remote host running Debian. This is to have access to the external storage attached to the remote host. My movie and picture collects and more. I rely on ssh in lieu of NFS or Samba and i don't share an Windows Computers.
thanks
Cheers
Good information. I've been using Manjaro for a couple of years, and haven't knowingly experienced any of these issues. I like the distribution. It installs easily and has geneally worked well for me. What would you suggest as an alternative?
ОтветитьI nearly aways have a problem updating the Mangaro after fresh install, But if it succeed with the updates it is a rock solid . I complaining about invalidate packages keys and stuff :(
Ответитьnot sure what you expected with an Arch distro, it's not a serious distro, Steam OS is garbage too
ОтветитьI use Manjaro for a couple years now, and everything you said about unsable package has been true for me. It is very infuriating and I was about to use it for my main gaming PC, but now I am looking for an alternative. I love the idea behind Arch, the rolling release system and the AUR, but I can't allow myself to have an unstable system for my gaming tower. Does soneone ever found a similar alternative? Also I don't want to use bare Arch pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase.
ОтветитьWhy they dont use letsencrypt lol
ОтветитьMost people who think they want Manjaro actually want Endeavour
Ответитьi dont know if its just me, but drivers have been a pain on it. they will work for a while, then all of a sudden youre spending way more time than you should be trying to find the issue.
ОтветитьManjaro has ddossed the AUR too much
ОтветитьWhenever someone asks me for advice on what distro to use, i strongly recommend to stay away from manjaro
ОтветитьDislike hater
ОтветитьAs a German Software-Engineer, such mistakes in trivial tasks like updating a SSL certificate and then telling the users to mess with their system clock, are a red flag for me. I was looking for a good distro which is shipping with KDE and thus looked at manjaro. After decades of Ubuntu and then Mint, I am ready for a new distro which runs KDE natively. But Manjaro is not it.
Ответитьi like to zsh manjaro not bash it
ОтветитьI tried Manjaro once before and like how supportive the community seemed and how well it ran on my system. I stopped using it because I was completely new to Arch and felt there was too much at the time to learn. But there are very significant issues and I won't return to it because of the issues you mention.
ОтветитьEndeavourOS or CachyOS is your answer to escape this.
Ответитьi left manjaro 2 years ago because of those issue you've mentioned in this video....
ОтветитьI'm a noob in Linux and my mom literally forced me to use the OS of Manjaro, it's so hard to download everything and different than the others OS, is more hard to find where the error is. She's Oracle Dev TI, by the way and works with SQL and Database, I want to work with Cybersecurity, a totally different way, and it's already hard as it is and she pushes me to use those exhausting tools that rather than facilitates my usage, it pushes me back.
ОтветитьI have been wanting to move to Linux to switch fully once I upgrade my PC, but won't be using Manjaro that's for sure. $2k for a PC cheap these days if I was a developer I'd want to spend a minimum of $3500.😅
ОтветитьI didn't have any problems with Manjaro, but when I heard all these issues, I bailed. Plenty more distros in the ocean.
ОтветитьSo yeah, the problems come when you can't find your software in official repos. Something just doesn't exist neither there, nor in flatpak/appimage/snap form. Then you have to rely on Aur... I personally had this issue with xrdp which is not well maintained for Arch. While I was trying to configure it properly, something eventually broke and even AUR versions couldn't be installed anymore, none of them :D
Then I just installed it the true way, from source...
I haven't had any problems with Manjaro until I attempted to install it onto my main system. I use Manjaro on a Samsung P7 SSD with a persistent install. Being in school with chromebooks kinda sucks but having access to desktops makes the experience a little better knowing I can boot into my own environment. I didn't use Manjaro or any other distros on my main system since I still played certain restricted games and exclusives like VR at the time. Finally being ready to switch today (3/9/23), I torrented XFCE. I could not get steam proton to run even though my experience and other videos showed how easy it was supposed to be. Also, lightdm the displayed manager would fail to launch each boot and reinstall of the OS requiring me to start it manually in tty2. As a last resort I tired KDE but was left with the same problems with steam. I would hit play, button would flicker saying stop, then say play again. Watching this video just made me realize I should just learn how to install Arch and maintain it myself. Unless another easy to install Arch distro exists then I'd rather stress myself out attempting a new project that will teach me more, in the end.
ОтветитьMake videos on Arch linux vs Kali Linux
ОтветитьI love this three Distribution 1st one is openSUSE, 2nd is Manjaro & 3rd one is Fedora and i also use as my daily driver use like i use suse & manjaro on my pc & use fedora on my laptop.
ОтветитьI literally try to forget that there is a distribution called Manjaro. Every single time through my 3 years of giving Manjaro multiple tries, it gave me errors or bugs of some kind - every single time. However it's just me btw, if Manjaro works for someone, good for them. But I just avoid this distro.
